Coronavirus: China’s Popular Bat Soup Fueled by Experts

An outbreak of coronavirus in Wuhan, China, which has already killed 26 people, could have happened because of a local delicacy – bat soup.

In China, an outbreak of the disease was recorded, which was dubbed the coronavirus – under a microscope, a corona of proteins is visible on the surface of a virus particle.

The numbers are frightening: as of January 24, there were 26 deaths and 830 confirmed cases of the virus.

Residents of China have already bought all the medical masks in pharmacies, parents do not let their children go to school, and in general people, if possible, try not to leave their homes.

The situation, however, is complicated by the fact that China celebrates New Year on January 25. Traditionally, at this time, residents of large cities leave for the provinces, and villagers, on the contrary, visit Beijing – the Chinese do not have paid leave, so they can only travel on public holidays.

To prevent the deadly virus from spreading even more, the authorities have already had to close 13 cities with a population of 30 million people. Experts, however, doubt that quarantine will help. “As far as I know, trying to contain the virus in a city of 11 million people is something hitherto unknown to science. We cannot say if it will work, ”said World Health Organization spokesman Gouden Galea.

An outbreak of the virus occurred in the city of Wuhan. The first people to get infected were people who either visited the local market or worked in it. And according to the study, which was published in the Chinese Science Bulletin, the detected virus has a lot in common with what is found in bats.

Meanwhile, fruit bat soup is a very popular dish in China. So now experts are seriously considering the version that people could get infected precisely because of this delicacy.

Note that several cases of coronavirus infection have already been recorded outside China: in Thailand, Japan, USA, South Korea and Singapore. So far, however, the Emergency Committee of the World Health Organization has refused to declare an emergency regime.

The head of the organization, Gebreyesus Tedros, said that it is too early to talk about the worldwide nature of the disease. The Chinese authorities, according to WHO, are doing everything possible to prevent the spread of the virus.
