Coronavirus in Croatia – infections on the rise

Croatia has had two major coronavirus waves behind it (plus a small initial one). Most infections were reported in this country in December last year and April. In June, the epidemiological situation was under control, but in July, the number of infections began to increase, so far only slightly.

On August 11, the local health ministry informed about 381 new cases of COVID-19. This is a very big jump, the day before there were 246 cases.

The average daily number of cases in the last week is 210. At the end of June, this number was less than 70.

A few days ago, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) placed Croatia (alongside Austria, Jamaica and Azerbaijan among others) on the third level of warning for tourists traveling to the country. The highest is the fourth, which concerns, inter alia, France and Israel.

In the worldometers.info ranking, Croatia is currently ranked 22nd in Europe in terms of new coronavirus infections, and in the total number of COVID-19 cases, the number of inhabitants is 17.

According to the data contained in the GISAID database, there have been 371 cases of the Delta variant in Croatia so far, but none in the last four weeks.

Holidays in 2021 in Croatia – what entry rules are there?

As the Polish government side reminds, the condition for entry to Croatia from EU Member States is to have the EU COVID Certificate.

In accordance with the safety rules in force until August 15, people who do not have the COVID-19 certificate will be allowed to enter, provided that they present one of the following documents or certificates at the border:

  1. not older than 72 hours, negative result of the PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 or not older than 48 hours, rapid antigen test
  2. not older than 270 days a certificate of receipt of two doses of a vaccine recognized in the EU (Pfizer, Moderna AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Sinopharm)
  3. a certificate of receipt of one dose of Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine not older than 270 days – provided that 14 days have elapsed since the dose was taken
  4. a certificate of COVID-19 disease and one dose of the vaccine received within 6 months from the date of contracting COVID-19, and the vaccination was performed within the last 270 days
  5. Confirmation that 22 to 42 days have elapsed since their first dose of Pfizer, Moderna or Gamaleya (Sputnik V), or 22 to 84 days if they have received the first dose of AstraZeneca
  6. a medical certificate confirming that they have passed COVID-19 containing the dates of disease transmission or a positive PCR / antigen test result, performed within the last 270 days, but not later than 11 days, before the planned date of crossing the RCh border.

They can cross the border without any additional requirements children up to the age of twelvecrossing the border with parents / guardians who have the EU Covid Certificate or negative test result, or who are recovering, or have a vaccination certificate.

Persons who do not meet one of the above-mentioned conditions will be automatically directed by the Border Police to a ten-day quarantine upon entering the territory of the Republic of Croatia.which may be shortened after receiving a negative result of the PCR / antigen test, already performed in Croatia.

Remember that Croatia is outside the Schengen area, so you must show a valid passport or ID card when crossing the border. «No other document (e.g. a driving license, a copy of a birth certificate, a credit card) is the basis for crossing the border» – emphasizes the Polish Polish embassy in Zagreb, taking into account that every visitor must have a passport / ID card, regardless of age – including infants.
