The dowry of a newborn almost always includes a corner – a sheet, the elegantly embroidered edge of which will look out from under the blanket or envelope and, if necessary, cover the baby’s face. Ready-made corners can be bought at any store that sells baby clothes. But it’s better to make this accessory yourself and decorate it according to your own taste.
Children’s corner: choosing a style and style
The style of the corner is pretty simple. Usually it is a diaper or a sheet, one corner of which is decorated with decor – embroidery, frills, bows, lace stitching. You can turn this accessory into a real work of art by decorating it with homemade lace, linen embroidery, cutwork or fillet. But tasteful factory decor will look just as good.
Choose soft natural fabrics for sewing a corner. The best option is batiste or other cotton fabric. For finishing you can use: – silk ribbons, – sewing, – knitted or braided lace, – colored threads for embroidery.
Finishing materials should not shed or prick, irritating the delicate skin of the child.
Do not overload the corner with decoration, two or three decorative elements are enough
The color of the corner depends on the style of the dowry. The corner should be in harmony in shade with thin and warm diapers, undershirts and, of course, a blanket or envelope. If you prefer a romantic option, choose a fabric with delicate small-flowered printing. The glamor-style corner can be crafted from crisp white cambric, decorated with lace frills and pastel bows. Color options also look smart – pink or peach for girls and pale blue for boys.
How to sew a glamor corner
Cut a 100 x 100 or 90 x 90 cm square out of thin cotton fabric. Since this accessory is only used for newborns, it makes no sense to make the corner too large. Hem the resulting sheet on the sewing machine or by hand, excluding the corner that you will be decorating.
Use scissors to round off the free corner of the sheet slightly. Pull up the cotton white lace on a strong thread and pull it slightly so that the lace gathers into a frill. Baste it around the edge of the fabric, then stitch it on.
When sewing on the trim, try to make it look neat both from the face and from the inside.
The corner can be decorated with a beautiful lace applique. Cut a large cotton guipure motif. Baste it to the corner, closer to the edge, and then stitch it with a zigzag seam. Use a sharp nail scissors to cut the fabric at the lace applique. Instead of lace, you can use sewing or sheer organza.
The final touch is small bows to match the blanket or envelope, for example, light pink or blue. They can be made from narrow silk ribbons. Fold them into a bow and secure with threads. Then sew the embellishments along the line of the lace frill attachment.
