Collaboration is a joint activity, as a result of which all parties receive one or another benefit.
Unfortunately, people need to be specially trained to cooperate. Maybe undesirable biological programs are working (“Man is a wolf to man”), perhaps we are reproducing the patterns that we received in childhood (“Who will beat whom?”), But at least Russian people are not very used to cooperation yet.
Yes, at night and in the dark, instinctive reactions when meeting in a dangerous place with a person who suddenly appeared in front of you — to beat, run away or freeze. However, why and why do we react so warily to strangers in a situation where there is no danger? Yes: smile, greet, ask for help or offer help — nature has not laid such biological programs in us, but we can learn this.
In order to change distrust and hostility (sometimes unconscious and imperceptible even for the person himself) to a policy of constructive interaction, people need to go through four stages: not always simple, but very necessary. The first stage is acceptance. The second is understanding. The third is collaboration. The fourth is creativity.
Listen to the sequence of phrases, look at the change of mental attitudes. It all starts with a simple, «Well, he’s just different» — Acceptance happens. “These are his possibilities, he is afraid of this, but he needs this for that” — Yes, this is already an understanding. “I can help him with this, he will help me out here for this” — Oh, already cooperation, albeit in the most elementary form. “Oh, together we can create a very sickly project!” Congratulations, the work begins.
To fight, of course, is more familiar and, perhaps, more interesting, but in the long run cooperation justifies itself more. A successful person teaches himself to live by the principle of «Win — win», he knows that the best deal is the one that takes into account the interests of both parties.
