It is a condition in which loss of consciousness of varying duration is accompanied by symptoms of brain tissue damage.

Symptoms arise from the location of the lesion. In contusion of the frontal lobes, intellectual dysfunction occurs. After a period of unconsciousness and subsequent confusion, the patients are confused, do not control their reflexes, and contaminate themselves in bed. Contusions in a different location may cause paresis, hypoaesthesia, speech, vision and other symptoms.

The duration of symptoms depends on the extent of the contusion, but usually not less than a few weeks. Patients with a contusion of the brain are at risk of various complications, such as brain edema or secondary hemorrhage into damaged tissue.

Treatment

The principle of absolute hospitalization for a period of several weeks applies. Symptoms may improve or decrease significantly after a few weeks or months. However, they may persist for life and cause permanent disability.
