If you are suffering from hay fever, your eyes are watering, or you can’t stop scratching your skin, it’s likely an allergy. How to fight it? What tests should be performed to eliminate the sensitizing factor from the environment? It turns out that we don’t have to leave the house to find out what we’re allergic to.

What tests are worth doing for allergies?

An allergy is considered to be an abnormal response by the immune system to a substance that is not harmful but causes a strong reaction. The most common allergy is:

  1. Nose (there is rhinitis or mucositis);
  2. Eyes (lacrimation and / or conjunctivitis are most common);
  3. Airways (the patient has difficulty breathing, there is shortness of breath);
  4. Skin (blisters appear, skin begins to itch).

The abnormal response of the immune system may also be accompanied by digestive system disorders – nausea or diarrhea. The causes of allergies include genetic factors, lifestyle changes (most often associated with changes in eating habits) and environmental factors.

In order to diagnose an allergy, and thus eliminate allergenic substances from the environment, it is worth doing tests. However, we do not have to leave the house for allergy tests to be carried out.

Thanks to the tests performed, we will find out which factor leads to an abnormal reaction of the immune system. The price of the test includes not only total IgE and blood counts, but also a pediatric panel containing 28 allergens, including:

  1. CCD – plant allergen;
  2. GX pollen – grass;
  3. D.pteronyssinus (d1) – house dust mite;
  4. D.farinae (d2) – house dust mite;
  5. Epidermis: dog (e2), cat (e1), horse (e3);
  6. Cladosporum herbarium (m2) – mold;
  7. Aspergilllusfumigatus (m3) – fungus;
  8. Hen egg protein (f1);
  9. Wheat flour (f4);
  10. Rice (f9);
  11. Soy (f14);
  12. Peanut (f13);
  13. Hazelnut (f17).

After making an appointment, a nurse will come to our home to take blood for the test. We should be fasting. In order to avoid a bruise, apply light pressure to the injection site for about seven minutes.

Blood tests for inhaled allergy – what allergens are included in the package?

The abnormal response of the immune system may be associated not only with digestive system disorders, but also with respiratory tract disorders (dyspnoea, rhinitis), which may indicate an inhalation allergy.

Sensitizer tests can also be done at home. As in the case of blood tests for allergies, the package includes total IgE and complete blood count, as well as 21 inhaled allergens, including:

  1. Rye (g12);
  2. Olchę (t2);
  3. Wart birch (t3);
  4. Hazel (t4);
  5. Oak (t7);
  6. D.farinae (d2) – house dust mite;
  7. Epidermis: dog (e2), cat (e1), horse (e3);
  8. Penicilliumnotatum (m1) – mold.

The nurse will come to our home at the selected date to collect blood. Therefore, we will not have to go to the clinic, and thus wait in line, and above all – we will reduce the risk of infection with bacteria and viruses.

The results of the collected samples can be collected after 1-2 working days on a dedicated website. If we want to discuss them immediately with an allergist, we may decide to teleconsult a specialist.

  1. Discuss the results of allergy tests with an allergy specialist

Panel of food, inhalation and pediatric allergens – what does the test look like?

A panel of diagnostic tests for allergies can also be performed in a laboratory. We can choose from:

  1. Pediatric allergen panel – includes a food and inhalation allergen panel. It is dedicated to children;
  2. Inhaled Allergen Panel;
  3. Food allergen panel.

The test is very quick to take as it draws the patient’s blood. However, we should remember that 1-2 weeks before the planned visit, it is worth stopping the antiallergic drugs taken so far. We do not need to fast during the visit.

E-visit to an allergist – when is it worth using?

Allergy has a very large impact on everyday functioning, so in addition to performing specialist tests, it is worth talking to a specialist about the symptoms.

Before the on-line meeting, it is worth drawing up a list of medications that we take, as well as the medical documentation collected so far, including the results of allergy tests performed. Thanks to this, the allergist will be able to help us (e.g. prescribe antihistamines).

  2. Meet the allergist in person – from PLN 120

Child allergy – how should we react?

If we have noticed disturbing symptoms in a child that may indicate allergy, we should consult an allergist. Children are usually afraid to go to the clinic, so we can arrange an on-line consultation with a doctor.

As in the case of adults, we should prepare a list of drugs that the child is taking chronically. During the visit, it is necessary to describe the environment in which the child lives on a daily basis – whether we have a pet at home, how much time the child spends outdoors.

  1. No stress – teleconsultation with an allergist
