Control tests against cancer

How and where cancer screening tests can be performed.

Are they payable? Is a referral required? Are they recommended for the risk group (quit smoking after 8 years)? Do injuries to e.g. the thorax or damage to the epithelium in the mouth / throat contribute to the disease?

Screening for early cancer diagnosis in men concerns:

– colorectal cancer – after the age of 50, a finger examination should be performed through the rectum, a fecal occult blood test (if a colonoscopy is performed, this can be omitted) and a colonoscopy. In most large cities, special preventive programs are launched – then the above-mentioned tests are carried out free of charge. Most often, the program operates at the Regional Cancer Center, but also in other hospitals and clinics. You do not need referrals to oncologists.

– prostate cancer – after 50 years of age examination by a urologist through the anus and PSA. You need a referral to a urologist from a primary care physician.

– in other neoplasms, the role of screening tests is not confirmed. However, in the case of smokers and ex-smokers, it is good to have a chest X-ray about every 1,5 years and show yourself to the ENT specialist with the same frequency.

In addition, in the event of symptoms, see a primary care physician for appropriate diagnosis.

Chest trauma does not contribute to tumor formation. Long-term damage to the epithelium can predispose to neoplastic formation.
