Contix – leaflet, indications, contraindications

Contix is a gastric acid-inhibiting medicine that contains a proton pump inhibitor.

Contix – leaflet

The active substance of the preparation is pantoprazole, a benzimidazole derivative, a drug from the group of proton pump inhibitors (this group of drugs is sometimes referred to as PPI). This substance blocks the enzyme – the proton pump (ATPase K + / H +) in the parietal cells of the gastric mucosa, thus inhibiting the secretion of hydrochloric acid by these cells. Thus, the acidity (pH increases) of the gastric juice is reduced. The inhibition is dose-dependent and affects both basal and stimulated acid secretion. Additionally, gastrin secretion increases in proportion to the decrease in gastric acidity.

Pantoprazole is rapidly absorbed after oral administration, the maximum concentration in the blood is obtained approximately 2,5 hours after administration. A meal does not affect the peak concentration or the bioavailability of the drug, it can only delay the onset of an effect. After 2 weeks of treatment with pantoprazole, symptom relief is achieved in most patients. Pantoprazole is mainly metabolised in the liver with the participation of the cytochrome P450 enzyme system, most of the metabolites are excreted in the urine and partly also in the bile. Pantoprazole crosses the placenta and into breast milk.

In the opinion of users, the effect is visible after the first dose. The medication brings you quickly noticeable relief.
