Contact lenses how to choose

Contact lenses how to choose

If you still have not decided to change glasses for lenses, read our article, and all your doubts will be dispelled.

Myth 1. Learning to use lenses is difficult.

In fact, it is not at all as difficult as it seems at first glance. Experts in the optician salon should advise you. When you buy lenses, they should ask you to put on and remove the lenses yourself under their supervision. Plus, there are tons of explanatory sites and even mobile apps that offer instant advice. For example, detailed video instructions can be found in the ACUVUE LENSPAL app. Honestly, even preschoolers are able to cope with this task.

Myth 2. Contact lenses get in the way all the time.

This myth is a relic of the past. The fact is that for a long time the only type of contact lenses were rigid gas-permeable ones, which took more than two weeks to get used to. Modern contact lenses are very flexible, soft and, most importantly, stay hydrated for a long time, and their shape is designed to perfectly match the shape of the eye for optimal wearing comfort.

Myth 3. I can’t see enough to wear lenses every day.

There is still a misconception that glasses or contact lenses do not have to provide 100% clear vision for the “eyes to work.” Such vision correction is called incomplete and has a number of negative consequences.

In modern life, our eyes are under daily increased stress due to the frequent use of computers, mobile phones and other gadgets. Incomplete vision correction leads to eye fatigue and strain, which in turn can lead to further deterioration of vision.

Myth 4. If I start using lenses, then I will see poorly with glasses.

It’s all about the difference between vision correction with glasses and contact lenses. Lenses provide the clearest possible vision. The glasses are located at a distance of 1-2 cm from the eye, and the size of objects changes: they seem to be either smaller, or, conversely, increase. Also, glasses cannot provide good peripheral vision, which can create problems, for example, when driving a car. In addition, the lenses do not fog up, do not fall from the nose, do not break or splash with rain drops, so they are much more comfortable than glasses in any sport.

At the same time, wearing contact lenses can and should be combined with glasses, for example, when you spend time at home.

Myth 5. Do not use decorative cosmetics when wearing contact lenses

You can use cosmetics, but you need to follow the correct procedure: first put on the lenses and then apply makeup, and at the end of the day, on the contrary, first remove the lenses, and then remove the cosmetics. Close your eyes when using hairspray and similar aerosols. Also, when wearing lenses, it is not recommended to use loose shadows and use eyeliner on the inner contour of the eyes.

Myth 7. You should never sleep in contact lenses.

There are lenses that are approved for sleeping. They are made of a silicone hydrogel material that allows oxygen to flow to the eye without restriction. For example, ACUVUE OASYS lenses can be left on for 7 days, and after this period, simply replace them with a new pair.

However, before wearing contact lenses for a whole week without removing them, it is necessary to consult an ophthalmologist at an optician’s salon, since there are a number of contraindications to wearing them.
