The boiler has been selected and purchased, the main line has been connected, and the stocks of cylinders are waiting in the wings. The case is small – connecting and installing equipment. If it seems to you that the main work is behind, do not rush to open the champagne. Connecting a gas boiler requires sober thinking, because you can get confused in the number of circuits. Our publication will help to put all the facts on the shelves and make the correct installation of equipment.
Ways to connect
It is important to understand where the line of independent work ends and the intervention of specialists is required. Installation and installation of equipment can be done by hand. Who should connect the device? Connection to the gas pipeline must be carried out by the gas service.
The legislation provides for a fine for unauthorized connection of equipment. Also, you may void your warranty.
Where to start?
Start by reading the instructions for your model. Then read the rules and regulations for installation in a private home.
- Contact the gas service for permission. You must have with you the documentation for the house, the passport for the boiler. The service will issue technical conditions (TU) for joining the highway.
- With the issued TU, go to the organization with the license for the project. After that, it is necessary to approve it by the gas organization.
Then specialists will come to the place to bring the unit to the network. Therefore, installation can begin as soon as a special place in the house is allocated for installation.
Norms and requirements for the premises:
- Placing a boiler with a power of 150 kW or more is permissible in a separate room – a boiler room. Area from 4 m², ceiling height 2,5 meters. Equipment up to 80 kW can be installed in the kitchen.
- It is obligatory to have a window or a window that opens (section 8 cm² per 1 kW). The width of the doorway is from 0,8 meters.
- Wall decoration only from non-combustible materials, the use of a false ceiling is unacceptable.
Installation:
- When hanging the case on a wooden wall, sheathing is used: steel sheet 0,8–1 mm, asbestos 3 mm, basalt cardboard. The sheet must exceed the dimensions of the device by 10 cm.
- Do not place any foreign objects under the appliance.
- For outdoor equipment, a 1×1 meter metal sheet is laid on the floor. It is believed that the use of asbestos cement is not justified due to rapid wear.
- The boiler room should not have cellars and other cavities where gas can accumulate.
How to properly connect to the chimney:
- The height of the horizontal shaft is not more than 3 meters. Three turns are allowed.
- The boiler exhaust is organized in a separate flue.
- The height of the pipe should rise 1 meter above the roof ridge.
- The chimney is organized from materials resistant to aggressive components.
When installation is prohibited:
- In an apartment building without a gas pipeline.
- In a room with a false ceiling made of fiberboard, wood.
- In non-privatized housing.
In the latter case, you can only rely on wall installation, since redevelopment is required for floor installation.
The choice of connection scheme depends on such factors:
- Type of heating system – open or closed.
- The presence or absence of a circulation pump.
- The number of contours.
- type of combustion chamber.
- Type of technology: convection, condensation.
And other individual characteristics.
Mounting conditions
The hinged device is established on holders brackets. They usually come with a set. Determine the place on the wall, use the level to make markings and install the brackets. Hang the body.
The floor unit is installed on a solid foundation. The surface must be flat and horizontal. The legs of the case are stably placed on the surface.
Scheme of the device of a single-circuit unit
Equipment with one circuit (Bosch, Protherm, Wismann, Ariston) is designed to service the heating system. However, if you include an indirect heating boiler in the circuit, then the equipment will also work for hot water supply (DHW).
In the first scheme, the liquid, having passed through the entire system, will again return to the heater. The safety valve releases excess water at elevated pressure.

A three-way valve is included here. As soon as the temperature in the boiler drops, the sensor is activated. The valve switches the flow of fluid from the radiators to the boiler. Heating is carried out by a heat exchanger in the form of a spiral. As soon as the water temperature rises to the temperature set by the thermostat, the valve will switch the flow again.
Keep in mind that the larger the capacity of the boiler, the longer it takes to heat up. At this time, the heating pipes cool down.
Connection of double-circuit floor gas boilers
Some of the most popular dual-circuit devices are AOGV, Buderus (Buderus), Vaillant, Baxi (Baksi), Navien. The design consists of two radiators, one of which works for heating, the other for hot water. It can be both floor and wall units.
In the system, the priority is the heating circuit, therefore, after heating, the coolant immediately moves through the pipes. Switching to DHW occurs only when the mixer is opened in the “hot position”.

Important! This scheme is the easiest to create. The disadvantage of such a strapping is that a two-circuit device provides hot water for one person. If you have a family of three, we recommend including a boiler in the harness.

There is a trick here: the fluid supply to another circuit is closed. This allows you to extend the life of equipment that suffers from scale.
Connection to the heating system
Of course, the diagrams above show piping. But before proceeding with the installation, read the instructions. Also specify which coolant is used – water or antifreeze. The advantage of antifreeze is that it does not freeze. This is convenient in summer cottages where the consumer does not live permanently.
If you are reconnecting (for example, you changed the model), then flush the pipes from debris, drain the old water, remove scale.
What knots does the binding provide for:
- The pump is located on the return line.
- Stopcocks. They allow shutting off the fluid supply, removing and cleaning the filter without completely draining the system.
- Filters trap debris, scale, rust. Protect the heat exchanger from clogging.
- The “American” connection is located at the junction of the boiler pipe and the “hot pipe”.
Hot water connection
The design provides:
- Installation of a magnetic filter on a cold pipeline. It purifies water from magnesium and potassium salts, preventing salt deposits in the heat exchanger.
- Stopcocks.
- Quick connector as above.
The connecting elements are sealed.
Electrical connection
The equipment is available in two variations: with a regular plug for plugging into a socket and with a cable for connecting to the machine. In any case, when connecting to the mains, a connection to a separate uninterruptible circuit breaker is required. You can get a generator (UPS) in case of a power outage.
The safety group also includes the organization of grounding. The loop resistance according to the gas services is 10 ohms.
Chimney line
In the models “Aton”, “Immergaz”, “Lemax”, “Bosch”, “Proterm” there can be open and closed combustion chambers.
Open provides for a standard chimney. The mine is built of bricks, ceramics, stainless steel. It is obligatory to lay insulation so that in winter the pipe does not freeze over. The diameter of the pipe depends on the power of the unit. For 24 kW, 120 mm is enough, and for 100 kW, 230 mm.
The closed chamber uses a coaxial design. It’s a pipe within a pipe. One exhausts smoke, the other intakes air. The installation is horizontal, the outer part is removed through the wall by 0,5 meters. Permissible length 3–5 m.
When arranging the parapet apparatus, installation is carried out according to the instructions on the outer wall. The chimney is brought out from above or behind.
Room thermostat
The thermostat greatly facilitates the management of the boiler, especially if it is located in a separate room. You can place the thermostat in the room on the wall. Height from the floor 150 cm.
