Conization is performed on the cervix when the cytological test result is abnormal. It is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure with additionally extended diagnostics. Sometimes the doctor recommends conization if the patient has undergone extensive erosion surgery or if there are disturbing symptoms and the test results are unclear. Conization takes about 20-30 minutes and you should not be afraid of its consequences.
Conization – and what’s next
Conization not only removes pathological or suspicious lesions. This procedure also involves examining the tissue collected during the procedure. Thanks to this, the patient can find out whether the previously detected changes are dangerous. Occasionally, after collecting the material for examination, there may be profuse bleeding or purulent discharge. This state may persist for several days. If you have had cervical conization and symptoms last a little longer, you should see your doctor as soon as possible. Additionally, it is important that the patient does not strain herself after conization. The most important thing is to maintain hygiene and for some time not to use tampons, which may cause inflammation in this situation. Additional recommendations will be given by the doctor after reviewing the patient’s clinical picture. Cervical conization can be performed even during pregnancy. This procedure does not pose any threat to the patient or her child. Remember that the procedure must not be performed during menstruation, as well as in the case of inflammation. If, despite the contraindications, we perform the procedure, it may cause many complications. Approximately two weeks after the conization treatment, a gynecological consultation is recommended. The doctor will then take a careful look at whether everything is healing well and assess the patient’s condition. Also remember that after conization, you should have regular smear tests and colposcopy. It is best if you do this once a year.
It is said that the procedure of cervical conization is usually an uncomplicated procedure, however, there are sometimes complications. Vaginal discharge, heavy bleeding and increased body temperature are the most common. Are you going to start trying for a baby, but have you had cervical conization? Don’t worry – it is by no means a contraindication. You also don’t have to worry about the quality of your sex life. However, it is said that you should wait 3 weeks after the procedure before you start having sex again. This time may be longer if you continue to notice any strange bleeding, discharge or contractions. Then the doctor should check the matter. However, such situations do occur sporadically. Remember, however, that conization is a procedure that – like all others – may carry a risk of complications. There are also cases where general anesthesia is necessary before the procedure is performed. This happens when an elderly patient is to undergo the procedure, and she is also struggling with other diseases, e.g. cardiological. Then the anesthesiologist must also be present in the operating room. When talking about complications, we must also take into account those caused by general anesthesia.
Conization – price
The prices for the cervical conization procedure can vary widely. It all depends on the place where we want to make it, as well as the city. Most often, this procedure costs about PLN 1,5 thousand. However, if there are indications, we will perform the conization procedure at the National Health Fund. It is enough for our attending physician to refer us to him. However, if you want the procedure to be performed privately, look for the best clinic. It is also worth consulting your doctor, who has certainly received many opinions about treatments performed in specific places in his work. You don’t have to worry about the cervical conization treatment. Unfortunately, a lot of doubts have arisen around this topic, but in this case they are wrong.
During the procedure, you will certainly not feel any pain, because an anesthetic is administered before it is performed. Moreover, the procedure is performed with the use of modern radio waves. This solution makes the procedure less invasive and much more precise. This in turn eliminates the risk of certain complications. Are you still wondering whether the procedure should be performed privately or at the National Health Fund? Remember that most often the prices quoted by various clinics do not include pre-qualification. Occasionally, your doctor may ask you to do several tests. You will also have to do these tests at your own expense. However, if you increase your psychological comfort by paying for the procedure, do not hesitate. If your doctor has asked you to make a conization, don’t wait too long, though. Remember that this procedure is also performed in precancerous conditions. In this case, there is nothing to wait for.
