# 1 The Lion King
Is it useful to recall the story of the most famous lion cub in the world and his happy traveling companions? One of the most moving and joyful Disney of our childhood at the same time. The song “Hakuna Matata” runs through your head for a long time, but frankly, we’ve seen worse. A little advice with the youngest: warn them that the beginning of the cartoon is very sad but that at the end, everything is sorted out.
1 hour 29 – From 4 years old.
# 2 Ernest and Celestine
It is the story of an unusual friendship between a bear and a mouse, and above all a film, of great tenderness. The watercolor drawings, the voices, the screenplay (by Daniel Pennac)… It almost feels like opening a storybook! Ideal for children who are starting to lose their baby teeth and who will hold onto this adventure even more.
1 hour 16 – From 6 years old.
#3 Zootopie
A rabbit entering the police force. This is the beginning of this recent, completely crazy Disney, which will make parents and children howl with laughter. Be careful, in Zootopia, the city of animals, everything goes very quickly, the twists and turns, the images, the dialogues. But it’s a real treat!
1 hour 45 – From 6 years old.
# 4 Back to the future
What a pleasure to share a classic of our generation with children who have grown up! They love the crazy look of Dock as much as we do, and that story we dream of living: traveling through time! An important note: sometimes you have to put a “pause” to make the young spectators understand in which year the actions take place. The future in the film having become the present, good luck!
1 hour 56 – From 8 years old.
# 5 My neighbor Totoro
One of the best animated films by Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki. Elegant designs, soft music, intelligent scenarios are at the rendezvous of this tender fable well suited to the little ones, especially if you have two daughters as in the story. If you prefer a more playful Miyazaki, consider Kiki’s Delivery Service.
1 hour 27- From 4 years old.
6 # Asterix and the 12 labors
How jubilant it is to introduce “Asterix and Obelix” to your children! In this adventure, the two heroes must face increasingly crazy trials. We laugh in front of the panoply of characters and the tasty dialogues. The advantage: you risk making the whole tribe want to dive right back into the albums.
1 hour 22 – From 7 years old.
# 7 Princes and Princesses
This feature film by Michel Ocelot, creator of “Kirikou”, is an animated film in shadow theater. Black silhouettes on a colored background come alive in 6 tales around the theme of princes and princesses, but in different universes. A technical feat in the service of poetry, and a result that really changes everything we usually see.
1 hour 10 – From 3-4 years old.
# 8 Arlo’s journey
Nice idea to reverse the man and the dinosaur for the duration of a cartoon! Pixar studios once again succeed in making us vibrate, and even shed a few tears at the beginning and at the end of this original, but simple to follow, initiatory story.
1 hour 40. From 6 years old.
# 9 the wing or the thigh
We don’t necessarily think of this kind of classic with children, that’s a mistake! The playing of Louis de Funès, his mouth noises, his inimitable grimaces could not leave the young generation indifferent. Not to mention the scenario full of gags and a perfect Coluche. The theme of the film, junk food, has remained sadly relevant.
1 hour 44. From 8 years old.
# 10 The Emperor’s March
Ideal in the middle of winter, this documentary film allows you to follow the life of penguins in Antarctica and discover how much their community resembles us. A little more, and you’d think the whole family were on the slopes! The only downside to this incredible spectacle is the slowness of the story, but at least the little ones will be able to fall asleep on the sofa, lulled by the soft music of Emilie Simon.
1 hour 26. From 3 years old.
# 11 Forward
Released in 2020, this Pixar cartoon features Ian and Bradley, two elf brothers who try to bring magic back to life in a world where illusion has given way to disillusion. From 8 years old.
#12 Soul
The last Pixar was released at Christmas 2020. We swing with this Soul, closer to Vice Versa (2015) in mind. The film is about a jazz musician who suffered an accident that cost him his life. His soul (“soul” in English) then joins the beyond and seeks at all costs to reincarnate. A film more for adults but which should also appeal to children thanks to its humor. From the age of 8.
# 13 Asterix and the secret of the magic potion
This last Asterix, directed by Alexandre Astier, has fallen into it again! Following a fall while picking mistletoe, the druid Panoramix decides that it is time to secure the future of the village. Accompanied by Asterix and Obelix, he sets out to travel the Gallic world in search of a talented young druid to whom to transmit the Secret of the Magic Potion… From 6 years old.
