Condensed milk is one of the favorite treats for adults and children. Condensed milk is used both as an independent dish and as additives for pastry dishes. As a rule, they buy it in a store. But such a delicious and sweet product can be cooked on your own.
Condensed milk prepared at home will differ by an order of magnitude in its benefits from the store version. After all, housewives take the best milk for homemade condensed milk. Therefore, the taste of such a sweet will be unique.
The simplest recipe involves the use of only two products: – milk – 800 ml; – sugar – 250 g.
For dessert, pour milk into a saucepan and add sugar to it. Place this saucepan in a water bath, but only so that the container with milk does not come into contact with the water. The fire should be very small. Simmer milk in a water bath for at least 3 hours, more is possible. Stir the mixture occasionally with a wooden spatula. Do not worry that in the first couple of hours the milk is still liquid, it begins to thicken after this period. Milk readiness can be determined by the residual volume: it should be boiled twice.
How long the milk spends on the stove determines both its color and its saturation. In this regard, the recommendation to hold the milk longer is not devoid of common sense.
Another recipe involves the use of three products for the preparation of condensed milk: – milk – 250 g;
– powdered milk – 150 g; – sugar – 300 g.
It is best to use skimmed milk powder for making homemade condensed milk according to this recipe. It is also better not to save on its quality. This will definitely affect the taste of the treat.
You also need to cook condensed milk in a water bath. Mix all ingredients until smooth. It is best to use a whisk for this purpose. Now put the milk in a water bath over low heat and simmer the condensed milk for about an hour. Stir the milk occasionally to keep it from burning. After an hour, remove from heat and cool. In case you find small grains of powdered milk, strain the final product through a strainer. It is necessary to store homemade condensed milk in the refrigerator.
What to consider when preparing condensed milk yourself
Nutritionists warn that you may enjoy cooking condensed milk so much that you will not be able to stop. Indeed, the entire cooking process takes a maximum of 5 minutes of active actions, and the rest of the time you will not spend too much energy and will only wait. This is where the main danger lies. You can easily recover from the use of such sweetness. Therefore, you should not get too carried away with it and cook immediately from a large number of products.
