Complementary feeding by month with breastfeeding: when to introduce

As the child grows, his diet begins to undergo changes. There comes a time when breast milk alone is not enough for him, and the digestive system is already ready to accept a new, unfamiliar product. Complementary feeding for months with breastfeeding is a very important and crucial period for mom and baby. Follow all WHO recommendations so as not to harm the health of the child, and properly prepare him for adult food.

Until the age of six months, the best food for a baby is breast milk. After that, the time comes when new products can be introduced. It is also not worth delaying with this case – you need to start no later than 7 months.

Complementary feeding for months with breastfeeding begins at 6 months

The first food for the baby after mother’s milk will be light and hypoallergenic vegetables – zucchini, cauliflower and broccoli. Special baby food in jars is suitable, and you can also cook it yourself – boil vegetables for a couple and grind in a blender to the consistency of a thin puree.

You need to start with one teaspoon a day, adding daily volume – 2,4, 8 tablespoons, and so reach 100 grams. This usually takes 7 days. After the successful introduction of a new product, you can proceed to a new one, it is introduced according to the same scheme. Do not forget to supplement your baby with breast milk after vegetables.

By the age of seven months, the baby is ready to try porridge. You need to start with buckwheat. If the baby is well tolerated with this new meal, next in line are rice and corn porridge. The principle of introduction is the same as with vegetables.

It is not necessary to cook the cereal every time; you can buy a specially prepared dry porridge in the store for dilution in water. It is very convenient and completely harmless to the child. Look carefully at the packaging – it should indicate the age and mark “dairy-free”. Porridge with milk can cause an allergic reaction.

What to do next: 8-10 months

The diet of an eight-month-old baby is greatly expanding – he can gradually try:

  • Mashed potatoes (no salt or milk). Often, potatoes are allergic, therefore they are introduced no earlier than 8 months and at first their amount should not exceed 50 g.
  • Egg yolk. Give 2 times a week or less, only in the morning. Can be added to cereals. They start with a small piece with a match head, adding little by little, in 2 months you need to reach 1/4 of the yolk in one meal.
  • Meat. Start with a rabbit or turkey. The daily norm is 50 g.
  • Oatmeal. Enter with caution – possibly allergic to gluten.
  • Butter. Start with 1/8 tsp, gradually bringing the amount to a whole spoon.

You can start to delight a nine-month-old baby with such innovations:

  • Fermented milk products. You need to buy special kefirs, yoghurts and curds for this age – there will be a mark on the package.
  • Fruit puree from green apples, bananas, pears.
  • White bread and special baby biscuits.

By 10 months, complementary foods become a complete food for the child. During this period, from new products, you can give fish, offal, diversify the introduction of fruits (except citrus fruits). They must be given all the same gradually and with caution, monitoring the reaction of the baby and his body.
