Aloe (Aloe vera). Aloe gel is a clear mucilage (= plant substance that swells on contact with water) extracted from the heart of the large leaves of this plant. It has emollient (= soothing) properties and is very often used in dermatology.
Remark : aloe vera can cause dermatitis (= skin irritation) in some people.
Evening primrose oil (Oenothera biennis). The gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) it contains is an essential fatty acid of the omega-6 type. Evening primrose oil therefore has emollient properties.
shea (butter). Taken from a nut that grows wild in West Africa, shea butter is said to have emollient and moisturizing properties.
