Coming out of self-isolation: setting up a daily routine

Due to quarantine, it has become difficult for most of us to stick to a certain schedule: when to get up, when to have lunch, when to work, when to go to bed. Without a clear plan, many feel lost. “No power” is heard very often. What can I do to get the energy to structure my day?

Psychologists unanimously repeat: in order to maintain energy and good spirits, it is necessary to observe the daily routine, even if the day is non-working. But if you have been waking up in the late afternoon for some time, stopped exercising, can hardly force yourself to get ready and start working, if your strength is gone and you are not in the mood all the time? How to get back on track?

We can work with three aspects: body, mental and spiritual components. I suggest starting with the body. From my point of view, this is the simplest and most effective way – as soon as it cheers up, emotions will return to normal, and the strength of the spirit will return.

I offer a few simple tricks to start, “rock” the energy and enter the new day on a working wave.

Morning at any time of the day

Whenever your morning starts – even if it’s in the afternoon or even closer to sunset – it’s important that it becomes truly awake.

What needs to be done for this?

  • Turn on the brightest light that is in the house – if it is cloudy, gloomy or just night outside, and you have morning, you need to make yourself light. This is how you tell your body that the day has begun. This “knowledge” is written in our genes: light means the day starts right, it’s time to turn on.
  • Spend at least 10 minutes in the sun without sunscreen. We are cyclical beings, and sunlight gives us the information that it’s time to wake up. If you open your eyes and there is no sun, reschedule the procedure, but try to do it within a day.
  • Take a contrast shower – it will help you wake up and cheer up at any time of the day. No need to torture yourself with ice baths – the procedure should bring pleasure. Therefore, start by dousing your feet and hands with cool water. When it becomes a habit, start pouring on the shins and forearms. Next – feet, shins, thighs; hands, forearms, shoulders – and so on.
  • Practice the “invigorating wash” – another great procedure that will give the body the opportunity to wake up, start processes and turn on energy. Fill the sink with cool water, put your face in it and hold your breath. This also has a positive effect on the condition of the skin.

Taoist exercises to regain strength

In the morning, you need to do exercises to start blood circulation, and hence energy. If you haven’t had the strength for a long time, don’t plan an hour-long interval workout. 10-15 minutes of simple exercises will be enough.

As a preparation for them, I suggest doing a simple exercise that will recharge you. It is easy to perform and the effect is immediate. It’s called “shoulder rotation”.

Begin to rotate your shoulders back and notice how your shoulder blades move as you do so. They seem to slide across the chest. In this way, an important acupuncture point on the inner edge of the shoulder blade is stimulated, which in Taoist medicine is responsible for vitality – vitality, a feeling of strength and fullness.

Chinese doctors act on this point if a person is anemic or has more serious diseases leading to a global loss of strength. According to Chinese medicine, the point stimulates the strength of the blood flow and the body as a whole and, most importantly, the strength of the spirit – it charges us with a feeling of joy.

Try to do this exercise, and if it cheers you up, do exercises for 10-15 minutes. And if there is not enough strength yet, then this exercise alone will be enough to enter a new day with a good mood and energy.

How to eat?

Meals should be balanced, varied and tasty. But even to restore strength, it is necessary to exclude from it everything that makes the body viscous, slows down metabolic processes. First of all, it is alcohol and sugar.

With alcohol, everything is obvious – people who began to “celebrate” quarantine quickly “burned out” neuromeditators and felt the full force of post-alcohol depression.

But with the second, everything is not so obvious. However, if you try to at least reduce the amount of sugar you consume, or rather eliminate it completely from your diet, you will soon feel that you have become more energetic and free, despite any external circumstances.
