Comfortable plastic garden furniture

What is better for a summer cottage: furniture made of plastic, wood, metal or wicker? We study the pros and cons of each material under the guidance of experts.

You can choose furniture for your garden in different ways. A reasonable option is to focus on the material of manufacture. But the other way – for its functional purpose – has no less chance of success. However, what prevents us from being guided by both criteria at once?

Pros of different materials

Plastic

Plastic garden furniture

  1. It is impossible to find a more economical version of the garden setting, especially if the products of domestic enterprises (“Gazservice”, “Polimerbyt”, “Mystery”) are selected. And although by autumn these polypropylene tables, benches, chairs, unpretentious in form and execution, will be scratched and, most likely, cracked, it is not difficult to save up about 2 rubles by the next season, which is exactly the same amount that a Russian-made “dining room” set costs. Imported “plastic”, for example, SCAB (Italy) or Kettler (Germany), will cost an order of magnitude more expensive, but it will last not one season, but three or four.
  2. Polypropylene furniture allows you to bring a little more brightness to the garden area, and, if necessary, add coloristic accents. The palette is not too wide, but you can still choose from: white, yellow, red, pink, blue, green or brown. By the way, it is also not forbidden to combine garden furniture of different tones on the site.

Tree and vine

The unusual shape of the Rollover wicker bench, invented by Nigel Kots for Varaschin (Italy), was obtained through a metal frame. In summer, the product will be good for its intended purpose, and in winter it will be irreplaceable as a small architectural form. New.

  1. It is useless to look for a material that would fit into the garden environment better than wood. On the street, surrounded by real trees, shrubs and flowers, this furniture looks very organic. But there is one caveat: not all wood is suitable for making garden furnishings. The right choice is northern pine, acacia, larch, beech or teak. They can be found in the assortment of Barlow Tyrie (UK), KWA and IKEA (Sweden), Foppapedretti and Unopiù (Italy). It is not worth experimenting with other types of wood.
  2. Unfortunately, the situation, woven from rattan or willow vine, should be taken out to the site only on a fine day. Its “area” – terraces, verandas, winter gardens, gazebos. For the street, furniture woven from artificial hularo fiber or its analogues is suitable. Here it can be left even under the pouring rain, even under the snow. Well, stability of such exterior objects will be given by a frame made of a metal bar.

Metal

Designed by Pascal Bouclon for Ex’primae (France), the King metal rocking bench, designed by Pascal Bouklon for Ex’primae (France), will fit perfectly into the garden landscape thanks to the floral ornamentation. This will be facilitated by any of the dozen bright shades in which the product can be painted. RUB 70

  1. Finding furniture that is more suitable for outdoor use is difficult. She is not afraid of gusts of wind, and factory galvanizing or galvanizing and the following powder coating reliably and permanently protect steel and cast iron from corrosion. Well, in the case of aluminum, we are generally not talking about rust, but about a noble patina, which over time covers the product. Metal furniture also tolerates human impact without any particular shocks. In addition, such a setting compares favorably with other solutions in terms of decoration. That is why the choice is wider – there are objects in the spirit of Victorian England and in a modern style.
  2. A number of manufacturers, such as Gorn, Intex Association, Fabrika ShkoM (all – Russia), Sifas (France), Sunfrise and Berkeley (China), combined forging with casting, which had a positive effect on the cost and weight of furniture. In addition, metal is often combined with wood and other materials, which also reduces the weight and price of products.

Next:

  • Benches, sofas and armchairs
  • Deck chairs and hammocks
  • Dining groups

Let’s sit down, let’s go!

You can take a breath after taking care of the garden or just pass the time on a bench, sofa or even in an armchair. So, it is logical to place a bench directly on the site – near a paved path, and a sofa and an armchair – on a terrace or veranda. However, the same sofa and armchair will find a place on the green lawn. One condition: during the rain, soft seat and back cushions (if these cushions, of course, are available) must be brought under the roof.

  • Designed by Jon Karlson and made from solid acacia by IKEA, the VEDERO bench can be complemented by the VEDERO low table and converted into a dining area. Well, if you move the table close to her, you get a wide couch. RUB 5 600
  • For the manufacture of garden furniture, unusual materials are rarely used. However, there are exceptions. For example, Denmark’s traditional shaped chairs are made by Ego2 (Netherlands) from recycled wood. New.
  • A coffee table and a pouf from O Living (Germany) woven from natural materials, alas, cannot be taken outside. However, due to their unusual shape, they will look good on the terrace and even inside the house.
  • The armchairs from the Re-trouvé series, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Emu (Italy), might seem to be woven from wicker and painted. Nevertheless, the material for their manufacture was a galvanized steel bar. Well, to make the chairs more comfortable, they were supplemented with pillows.

Midday heat

A sun lounger is perfect for meeting the morning and evening sun, while a hammock is the best place for an afternoon break. By the way, some sun loungers and hammocks almost do not differ from each other, so they can be used in two qualities at once and are located both at the very edge of the water and under a spreading tree. Another advantage of most modern hammocks is the presence of a metal or wooden frame, which allows you to keep the trees intact.

  • The lack of a rigid frame in the chaise longue is only on hand here: the Outdoor model from Fatboy (Netherlands) quickly and naturally takes the desired shape, but the carabiner straps will fix it. In addition, moving such a chaise lounge from place to place is also much more convenient. RUB 12
  • In order for a chaise lounge from the Applearo series, invented by Marianne and Knut Hagberg and made by IKEA from solid acacia, to serve for several years, it is enough to follow simple instructions for its care: at the end of the season, wash, dry and apply a special oil for wood. 4 rubles.
  • If you hang the Greno hammock, designed by Liesel Garsveden for IKEA, to the supporting structures, then it will withstand at least a quarter of a ton. However, more than two people will still not fit in it: the length of the hammock is 220 cm, and the width is 140 cm. 1 rubles.
  • Due to its impressive size (length 280 cm, width 140 cm), at least one adult and two children can safely use the Headdemock model from Fatboy. 16 rubles.
  • Despite its impressive dimensions (250 × 250 cm) and a powerful frame, the Kokoon hammock from Royal Botania is not designed for a significant number of vacationers. And its form is clearly more conducive to solitude than to communication. 350 rubles.
  • With an armchair and ottoman from the Sifas Transatlantik collection, you can organize, for example, a seating area on the terrace. Placed side by side, these items “turn” into a chaise longue. 42 rubles.

Around the samovar

You can arrange the dining group – a table and several chairs – anywhere. Here are just a few options: on a terrace or veranda, in a gazebo, in a shady part of the garden, in the very center of the lawn. In the latter case, it is better to pave the selected site and approaches to it so as not to spoil the plantings. And the dining group itself should be supplemented with a large umbrella or awning – the rays of the midday sun not only warm, but also burn, and unexpected “tropical” showers, alas, are not uncommon in our latitudes.

  • The Roxe series, designed by Ula Vilborg for IKEA, consists of a serving table and an armchair. The cushions and tray can be easily removed and removed … for winter storage. The frame of the furniture can be outdoors all year round – the steel protected by powder coating allows for such use. RUB 7
  • Steel chair backs and table legs from the Dragnet collection by Kenneth Cobonpue are first galvanized and then powder coated.
  • Lorenzo chairs from Hartman (Netherlands) will withstand all the vagaries of our climate. Their frame is made of non-corrosive aluminum, the armrests are made of teak, and the seat and backrest are made of textile. 14 rubles.
  • After a couple of years, teak furniture will age – the wood will change color to gray. The performance of quality products such as Barlow Tyrie’s Devon and Edinburgh chairs will not be affected. And to get rid of the “patina” will allow fine-grained sandpaper. 62 000 rubles.
