The water in the most popular bathing areas around Opole is not suitable for bathing – Sanepid informed PAP on Friday. Coli bacteria were detected in the lakes, and cyanobacteria also bloomed.
In Lake Duży in Turawa, tests showed the presence of coli bacteria, and cyanobacteria bloomed. In the Medium Lake, the study showed streptococci, and the same is true in the nearby Srebrne Lake.
Cyanobacteria also bloomed in Lake Otmuchowskie. These microorganisms appear in water bodies when the water temperature increases, especially in polluted tanks where there is an increased amount of phosphorus, potassium and sodium.
The Sanitary Inspectorate warns that you should not bathe during the bloom of cyanobacteria. Toxins secreted by cyanobacteria can cause food poisoning. After choking on contaminated water, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence, smooth muscle contracture and colic may appear.
Cyanobacteria toxins damage the liver and nervous system. Bathing in blooming water causes a rash, fever and vomiting, sometimes even muscle tremors or difficulty breathing. If these symptoms occur, medical attention is needed.
The water in the remaining bathing areas of the Opole region, supervised by sanitary services, is fit for bathing. You can bathe without fear in the Opole workings of Bolko, Silesia and Malina, as well as the bathing areas: Balaton in Dobrzeń Wielki; Anpol in Stare Olesno; and the lagoon in Pietrowice Głubczyckie.
The water in Lake Nyskie and the reservoirs in Dębowa – near Kędzierzyn, in Brzeg, near Korfantego, near Brzeg swimming pools: in Florida in Kościerzyce and in Leśna Przystań in Głębock – is also clean. You can also take a bath in the swimming pool in Lewin Brzeski, in the Srebrne Lake in Januszkowice in the area of krapkowicki and in Zielona Zatoka in Łącznik, in the area of Prudnik.
Tests of water in supervised bathing areas will be conducted throughout the summer season (PAP).
