Coldrex MaxGrip C – indications, dosage, contraindications, side effects

Coldrex MaxGrip C is used in the symptomatic treatment of flu and colds. The drug contains as many as 5 active substances in the form of: paracetamol, vitamin C, phenylephrine, caffeine and terpin hydrate. The paracetamol in the drug has an analgesic and antipyretic effect. The ingredients contained in the pre-work pass through the placenta and into the breast milk of a nursing mother. The drug is in the form of tablets to be taken by mouth and is available without a prescription.

Coldrex MaxGrip C are tablets intended for the symptomatic treatment of:

  1. colds,
  2. flu.

How to take the drug

Coldrex MaxGrip C is in the form of tablets to be taken orally. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the drug as it may endanger your life or health. The drug can be used for a maximum of 3 days.

  1. Adults and adolescents after the age of 12: 2 tables up to 4 × / d. It should not be used more often than every 4 hours.

Coldrex MaxGrip C and contraindications

Coldrex MaxGrip C should not be taken in the case of:

  1. allergic to any ingredient of the preparation,
  2. severe liver and kidney failure,
  3. overactive thyroid gland
  4. diabetes
  5. arterial hypertension,
  6. aneurysm,
  7. heart diseases,
  8. pregnancy,
  9. lactation,
  10. increased intraocular pressure,
  11. prostatic hyperplasia,
  12. glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency,
  13. alcoholism
  14. treatment with tricyclic antidepressants and beta-blockers,
  15. taking MAO inhibitors in the last 2 weeks,
  16. use together with other preparations containing paracetamol.

Coldrex MaxGrip C – drug warnings

  1. If symptoms persist or worsen after 3 days, see a doctor.
  2. Do not give the drug to children under 12 years of age.
  3. Check that other medicines you are taking do not contain paracetamol to avoid overdosing.
  4. Do not exceed the recommended dose of Coldrex MaxGrip C, as severe liver damage may occur.
  5. It is not recommended to take other cold and flu preparations as well as nasal decongestants at the same time.
  6. Patients with a deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and methaemoglobin reductase should exercise caution during treatment with the drug.
  7. People with: impaired renal and / or liver function, patients with bronchial asthma, hypertension, prostatic hyperplasia, hyperthyroidism, Raynaud’s syndrome should use the preparation with caution.
  8. People who are hungry and who regularly consume alcohol have an increased risk of liver damage.
  9. People taking serifampicin, antiepileptic drugs, sleeping pills, St. John’s wort (used, for example, in depression) or other drugs that increase hepatic metabolism, as well as people with glutathione deficiency (e.g. with eating disorders), HIV, and patients with cystic fibrosis should be consult your physician on this medication, as there is a risk of hepatotoxicity.
  10. Treatment with the drug should be discontinued immediately in the event of allergic symptoms.
  11. Do not drink alcohol while taking Coldrex MaxGrip C.
  12. Patients taking Coldrex MaxGrip C should avoid excessive amounts of coffee and tea.
  13. Pregnant and breastfeeding women may take the drug only after consulting a doctor and when absolutely necessary, and when the doctor determines that the benefit for the mother outweighs the risk for the fetus.
  14. The drug, taken in therapeutic doses, has no influence on the ability to drive motor vehicles.

Coldrex MaxGrip C with other drugs

  1. Do not take the drug with other preparations that contain paracetamol.
  2. Paracetamol may increase the effect of anticoagulants (warfarin, coumarin derivatives).
  3. Concomitant administration of the preparation with rifampicin, antiepileptic drugs or hypnotics (e.g. phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine) and other drugs inducing microsomal liver enzymes may lead to liver toxicity, even at the recommended doses of paracetamol.
  4. The use of paracetamol with MAO inhibitors and within 2 weeks of stopping treatment with these drugs may cause agitation and high temperature.
  5. Simultaneous use of paracetamol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (including acetylsalicylic acid) increases the risk of renal dysfunction.
  6. Metoclopramide and other drugs that accelerate gastric emptying accelerate gastric emptying, and cholestyramine and cholinolytics delay the absorption of paracetamol from the gastrointestinal tract.
  7. The analgesic effect of paracetamol is enhanced by caffeine.
  8. Salicylamide increases the elimination time of paracetamol.
  9. The use of paracetamol may influence the results of laboratory tests, e.g. the results of measuring blood glucose.
  10. The phenylephrine contained in the preparation when used with drugs to accelerate labor or ergot alkaloids may increase the risk of high blood pressure; when used with MAO inhibitors, it may cause a sharp rise in blood pressure.
  11. Indomethacin, beta blockers, methyldopa used in combination with phenylephrine may cause hypertensive crisis, a potentially life-threatening condition.
  12. The use of digitalis glycosides increases the risk of arrhythmias.
  13. Tricyclic antidepressants may reduce the effect of phenylephrine.
  14. Phenylephrine may reduce the antihypertensive effect of beta-adrenergic blockers. The use of these drugs is a contraindication to taking the preparation.
  15. Ascorbic acid increases the absorption of iron and the absorption of aluminum contained in antacids.
  16. Disulfiram, estrogens and progesterone may all decrease the clearance (increase the time of excretion) of caffeine.
  17. Lithium clearance is increased by caffeine.

Coldrex MaxGrip C – side effects

Taking Coldrex MaxGrip C may lead to the following side effects:

  1. allergic reactions (urticaria, erythema, rash, attack of bronchial asthma and other hypersensitivity reactions up to symptoms of anaphylactic shock),
  2. nausea,
  3. vomiting
  4. digestive disorders,
  5. baking in the epigastrium,
  6. dry mouth
  7. Haematological disorders (thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis and methaemoglobinaemia) may occur in isolated cases.

rarely there may be: transient urination disorders, renal colic, necrosis of the kidney, increased blood pressure, arrhythmias, pale skin, breathing problems, anxiety, restlessness, nervousness, insomnia.
