Brand History

The Kizlyar factory was founded by the famous cognac master David Saradzhev at the end of the 19th century. Having united several local distilleries into one enterprise in 1885, the entrepreneur laid the foundation for professional distillation in the region.

However, the inhabitants of Kizlyar were engaged in amateur winemaking long before that. Aboriginal and European vines were grown on fertile soils, rare grape varieties were brought from Germany and France. They say that Peter the Great himself spoke highly of local drinks.

The prototype of Kizlyar cognacs was strong grape vodka, which, after a long aging in oak, acquired characteristic notes and a rich taste. David Sarjev took the traditional recipe into service and created his own line of cognacs.

“Dagestan” at the Kizlyar Brandy Factory began to be produced many years after the death of the great master.

The drink was first released in 1968 – for the 50th anniversary of Dagestan. Hence the name of the brand.

Production features

To create a drink, local grape raw materials are used: Rkatsiteli, Scarlet Tersky, Riesling, Shasla, Kizlyar Black.

Cognac spirits are obtained according to the classical French technology by double distillation in copper Charente stills, strictly controlling the temperature and heating rate.

Distillates are aged in Caucasian barrels, which give them a special, recognizable taste.

For the preparation of “Dagestan” they use selected spirits that have matured in a hundred-year-old oak for at least 13 years.
