Courvoisier’s story

Since 1828, the firm of Courvoisier and Gallois, which at that time was already headed by the sons of the creators – Felix and Jules, began to be recognized as the Cognac House of Courvoisier. At the same time, the company moved to a new location – in Jarnac, where the headquarters of Courvoisier is located to this day.

In 1866, Felix Courvoisier died and the management of the company was transferred to his nephews, the Curlier brothers, who managed to bring their high-value product to the UK market. And by 1869, Courvoisier was served at the royal palaces of countries such as Denmark and Sweden.

In 1909 the firm was acquired by the brothers Alfred and George Simon. The first thing they had a hand in was the creation of the iconic logo, which flaunts the silhouette of Napoleon.

The 1980s were a period of major changes in the production process for the House of Courvoisier. The use of microdistillation technology begins, the company moves to the use of a new storage system for cognac barrels – vertical.

  1. Napoleon Bonaparte personally visited the cognac warehouses located in the city of Bercy.

  2. The collection of alcoholic beverages of Charles Dickens consisted of 216 bottles of Courvoisier cognac.

    The taste is subtle, the fruity background is definitely noticeable. It is dominated by a bouquet woven with ripe fruits and complemented by a floral hue.

    The rich fragrance of the drink is light, it is characterized by purity and freshness: oak tones are harmoniously intertwined here, loudly declaring the energy and youth of the drink.

  2. Courvoisier VSOP

    The drink has an amber color. Light red-gold highlights are also traced.

    The delicate taste of the drink is characterized by a balance of oak motifs and touches of exotic fruits.

    The aroma endows with the tenderness of vanilla and pleasant nuances of roasted almonds.

  3. Courvoisier XO

    Cognac beautiful amber color, there is a golden hue.

    The taste is somewhat complex and at the same time soft. It has a velvety structure, where the motifs of ripe pear, candied orange, fragrant apricot and spicy spices are perceptible.

    The aromatic palette is quite rich and a little exotic: the presence of creme brulee, chocolate and delicate vanilla, hints of cocoa and the smell of cinnamon are felt, which are wrapped in floral motifs of iris and violets.

    The fragrant bouquet of the drink intertwined violet and anise touches, smoothly flowing into spicy motifs of ginger, delicate vanilla and raisins.

    A distinctive feature of taste is softness. It is created with tones of candied orange interspersed with hints of figs, nuances of cocoa, honey sweetness and hints of spicy spices: coriander and white pepper.

    Persistent aftertaste is woven with notes of cigars and leather.

    The sweet aroma is rich with accents of figs and hints of dried apricots, as well as the presence of sugar cookies and hazelnuts.

    Alcohol is dark amber in color with a reddish tinge.

    The bouquet is filled with motifs of dried fruits – prunes and dried apricots, which are complemented by licorice tones, touches of pine nuts, sweetness of honey, caramel and fresh citrus accents.

    Walnut cognac. Explosive taste ends with a long perfect aftertaste.

    In a complex aromatic composition, notes of refreshing forest air and truffles are distinguishable, followed by the fragrance of cedar and port wine, soon replaced by spicy motifs of cinnamon, dried apricots, orange zest and a hint of fruit pie.

    The drink has an amber color with a scarlet tint.

    The powerful taste is characterized by a long elegant aftertaste, created by the nuances of a hot fruit cake.

    The aroma has cedar accents, notes of old sherry and creme brulee, havana cigar leaves, coffee, hot honey and spicy licorice.

How to distinguish fake cognac Courvoisier

  1. The label of the original Courvoisier is glued evenly, any bevels, smudges and other inaccuracies are unacceptable. In addition, the label of the authentic drink is embossed. If you run your finger over the letters and images, they should be felt. If there is no relief, then you have a fake.

  2. The label on a real Courvoisier bottle cannot contain Russian words. An additional sticker is attached on top of the original label, where the cognac importer provides basic information about the drink in Russian.

  3. On the original bottle there is a signature relief type logo, which depicts the silhouette of Napoleon.

  4. At the bottom of the bottle there is a relief inscription “Courvoisier” and the capacity of the bottle is indicated, but in no case, not in Russian letters.

  5. The cork of a genuine Courvoisier has the brand’s emblem at the very top, and this is also an image of Napoleon. The cork itself must be made of cork wood.

  6. Without fail, an excise stamp is glued on the bottle of the original drink, since the goods are imported. The volume indicated on the brand must be identical to the actual volume of the container.

  7. Courvoisier cognacs are elite drinks, so their price is appropriate.

Remember that genuine alcohol, including Courvoisier cognacs, can only be purchased in specialized liquor stores or in large supermarkets.
