1090 people with breast cancer participated in a study conducted at the University of Lundi and the University Hospital in Skåne in collaboration with scientists from the United Kingdom. It found that among 500 women treated with tamoxifen, those who drank at least 2 cups of coffee a day had a half risk of the cancer coming back compared with the rest of the women. Moreover, in the coffee drinkers group the possible tumors were smaller and the percentage of hormone-dependent tumors was reduced.
Drinking at least 2 cups of coffee a day reduces the risk of breast cancer recurrence, inhibits the growth of tumors and reduces the risk of hormone-dependent cancers.
This does not mean that treatment is not needed. On the contrary. Coffee most likely enhances the effects of the drug, making it even more effective.
Scientists are wondering which ingredient in coffee has such a powerful effect. Taken under a microscope caffeine and caffeic acid. Caffeine has been shown to reduce cell division and increase cell death, especially when combined with tamoxifen.
