Coffee is often associated with its negative effects and is rather not recommended in many diseases. On the other hand, a very large number of people drink coffee and like it, not imagining a morning without its aroma floating in the air. And rightly so, because coffee is also characterized by a multitude of health benefits. Green tea and coffee are increasingly being researched for their beneficial effects on health.

A brief history of coffee…

Coffee is made from ground coffee beans. Interestingly, coffee comes from Ethiopia and appeared in Europe relatively very late, in the XNUMXth century. However, the very name “coffee” comes not from the Ethiopian word (although linguists point to its similarity to the Ethiopian city of Kaffa), but from the Arabic word. In the Arab countries, coffee brewing is associated with long traditions.

  • How much coffee to drink a day? Coffee is harmful to health when we consume absolutely too much of it. Moderation is appropriate here, a kind of “golden mean”. Let’s limit ourselves to the consumption of two cups of coffee during the day – eg in the morning and at work or after returning from work.

Benefits of drinking coffee

  1. It accelerates metabolism, causes acceleration of intestinal contractions
  2. Weight loss and diet are supported by the consumption of coffee, which also cleanses the body
  3. It contains a multitude of antioxidants that have a positive effect on health, inhibiting the formation of free radicals
  4. Stimulates action, increases concentration of attention, improves memory, gives an energetic “kick”
  5. Reduces the risk of cirrhosis, diabetes, bowel cancer and bladder cancer (smokers only)
  6. Increases the effectiveness of painkillers
  7. Interestingly, it can reduce the development of caries, and therefore has a health-promoting effect on the condition of the teeth

Cons of drinking coffee

  1.  Brewed coffee beans may contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which are carcinogenic and mutagenic.
  2. Drinking coffee causes calcium to be washed out of the body, but research shows that this effect is not very strong unless you consume coffee in really large amounts
  3. Coffee causes physical dependence on caffeine, this can lead to abnormalities in the functioning of the hippocampus (part of the brain) and abnormalities in the production of dopamine
  4. It can negatively affect the fetus, increases the risk of stillbirth, but only if the pregnant woman consumes very large amounts of coffee (drinking 1-2 cups a day is safe)
  5. Above 1 mg caffeine becomes a highly poisonous and life-threatening substance
