Coconut oil: how to store it? Video
According to chefs, trichologists and cosmetologists, coconut oil is an excellent and indispensable tool for cooking, hair and skin care. However, you should not stock up on this product in large quantities, as the oil can deteriorate. Therefore, it is very important to know how to properly store coconut oil.
Storing liquid coconut oil
Examine the packaging of coconut oil carefully. If it indicates that the permissible shelf life of this product is no more than a year, and the composition contains preservatives, do not pour the oil into another container for further storage, since in this case neither the other packaging nor the oil content in the refrigerator will extend its shelf life will not be able to.
If you intend to store coconut oil for a long time, pour it into a bottle or jar made of dark glass, and the lid of the vessel should be tightly closed. Remember that threaded corks are not able to close the neck of the bottle tightly enough, so you better ditch them in favor of much more environmentally friendly and reliable corks made from very crumpled sheets of newspaper. If you haven’t found a suitable vessel, an empty dark bottle with a cork, which originally contained wine, for example, will do. Never store oil in an open container.
Before pouring coconut oil into such a container, wash it thoroughly and dry it.
Storage of Kosy oil in ampoules and capsules
If you are using coconut oil in light-colored glass serving capsules or plastic ampoules, store in a cool, dark place. Do not rush to open the capsules sealed in a cardboard box, let alone get rid of it. Tightly sealed packaging is very important for storage.
Ampoules or capsules with coconut oil should only be sent to the refrigerator for storage when the product has already expired. To determine if the oil has deteriorated, bring the container with the product to the light, its shade should not be poisonous yellow, although a light golden shade should not alarm you.
Also, to make sure that the coconut oil capsules you purchased are usable, open the capsule and squeeze a small amount of the oil out. If there is no bright yellow shade, place the food on the top shelf of the refrigerator – this is usually the lowest temperature. Finally, remember that it is not recommended to use the freezer to store coconut oil.
To make coconut oil at home, pour 3 tablespoons of coconut flakes with 3 tablespoons of cold water, mix well, put on low heat, bring to a boil with constant stirring and keep it on low heat for 3-4 minutes. Strain through several layers of cheesecloth, pour into a bottle and refrigerate. Homemade coconut oil has a shelf life of no more than 2 weeks.
