Coconut oil for the face

Interest in a healthy lifestyle, secrets of Asia and superfoods has significantly increased the rating of coconut oil. Although this product also has a lot of opponents. Healthy lifestyle adherents suggest using coconut oil not only as a culinary ingredient, but also as a universal natural cosmetic product for the beauty of hair and skin.

What is coconut oil

One of the favorite souvenirs from hot Asian countries is coconut oil. It is obtained from the so-called copra (oily pulp of coconuts) by cold or hot pressing.

The first, as you understand, is much more valuable, because it allows you to save the maximum amount of useful substances in the oil. And there are a lot of them.

Oil obtained from coconut is used not only in cooking, but also in the field of beauty.

Externally, coconut oil is somewhat different from other vegetable oils in color and texture that changes depending on the temperature of the environment. If the temperature on the thermometer is more than 25 ° C, it is liquid and almost transparent, and at lower temperatures the oil turns into a thick white mass, resembling wax in consistency.

The scope of coconut oil is quite extensive. It is used like:

  • ingredient of masks for damaged hair;

  • an agent that smoothes wrinkles and softens the skin;

  • culinary ingredient;

  • means for weight loss (which is very ambiguous).

Composition

Why is coconut oil so valuable? Not only for the delicate sweet aroma, but also for the unique composition. What is so valuable about it?

  • complex of unsaturated fatty acids. In composition, they are similar to the lipids of our skin, and this allows the oil to effectively restore the hydrolipidic film, contributing to the softness and smoothness of the skin.

  • Vitamin E is a well-known and fairly strong antioxidant that fights oxidation processes that accelerate the aging process, and at the same time nourishes the skin.

  • Calcium.

  • Phosphorus.

But there is a fly in the ointment in this healthy package: coconut oil is quite high in saturated fats. They are responsible for high cholesterol levels and weight gain. In addition, there is an opinion that coconut oil can be quite a serious allergen.

Benefits of coconut oil for skin

In personal care, coconut oil is used for the face, body, and hair.

However, coconut oil is one of my favorite ingredients for hair, face and body care.

For face

Coconut oil aficionados claim that it:

  • gives the skin elasticity;

  • Smoothes wrinkles;

  • protects the skin from the cold;

  • suitable for the skin around the eyes;

  • cares for the skin of the lips, softening and nourishing them.

For body

Coconut oil is an excellent emollient and moisturizer for the skin of the body. Here is just a small list of its positive properties:

  • softens rough skin on the feet and knees;

  • well moisturizes the skin of hands and nails;

  • used for body massage.

In Asia, many women use coconut oil while breastfeeding to prevent cracking.

Application of coconut oil

Coconut oil is a great skin softener. Especially for hardened areas.

Coconut oil is one of the most popular cosmetic ingredients.

In cosmetics

It is used in products to soften and protect the skin, as well as for hair care. The conventional wisdom that it is able to retain moisture does not have any soil under it. In order for the oil to start working for the benefit of the skin, it is recommended to apply it on slightly damp skin to “seal” the water.

In cosmetology

In its pure form, coconut oil is not used in cosmetology.

Can pure coconut oil be used at home

Coconut oil mask perfectly softens hair, making it shiny and healthier.

A bottle of coconut oil for many becomes a real salvation after the season of cold and frost.

  1. Coconut oil mask quickly restores dry skin prone to flaking. It is enough to cleanse the face in the usual way, apply a moisturizer, and then a mask.

  2. Coconut oil is a great base for scrubs.

  3. Coconut oil in its pure form is suitable for use on split ends of hair. Apply oil either to the ends of the hair or along the entire length. But don’t rub it on your scalp!

We do not recommend adding coconut oil to the usual cream. It will make the product too oily and prevent it from being absorbed quickly.

Tips and reviews of cosmetologists

Cosmetologists urge to treat coconut oil without fanaticism. It is welcomed as an SOS remedy for dry lips and rough skin, as well as a massage tool.

“It’s important to understand,” he says. Ekaterina Turubara, Vichy medical expert, — that coconut oil acts only superficially. In addition, due to its saturated fat content, natural coconut oil is a comedogenic product.”

Warning: People who are prone to allergies should treat pure coconut oil with caution.

Safety measures

  1. Do not use coconut oil for people with oily and problem skin.

  2. Coconut oil spoils fairly quickly. Store it in a dark place at room temperature. Usually the shelf life of coconut oil is no more than 12 months after opening the bottle.
