Cocktail Titanic (Titanic) – a tribute to the memory of the sunken ship

The Titanic cocktail is remembered not only for its exquisite taste and beautiful color of sea water, but also for its original serving, symbolizing a shipwreck. Moreover, the whole action is easy to repeat at home.

Historical information

Initially, the Titanic was a British transport steamship, which at the time of commissioning was the largest ship in the world. It was wrecked on its maiden voyage on the night of 14/15 April 1912 in North Atlantic waters after colliding with an iceberg. The disaster claimed the lives of 1496 people, 712 survived. The wreckage sank to a depth of 3750 meters, where they are now. Later, this catastrophe was covered more than once in literature, music, painting, cinema, and also influenced bar culture.

Place of the shipwreck

The Titanic alcoholic cocktail was invented in New York in the 50s. Ironically, it was this city that was listed as the port of arrival for the ship. The recipe was developed by a bartender whose name remains unknown. Initially, all the ingredients were simply mixed in a shaker and poured into serving dishes.

According to legend, the bartender-creator could not come up with a name for a long time, but one day a visitor appeared in the establishment, ordering this particular cocktail. The man made a toast: “To those who died on the Titanic!”. The association with the ship is firmly entrenched in the cocktail.

But worldwide popularity came to the drink only a few decades later, when the bartenders turned the preparation into a beautiful show (staging and symbolism are described in the recipe).

Composition and proportions:

  • vodka – 45 ml;
  • dry vermouth – 15 ml;
  • Blue Curacao liqueur – 15 ml;
  • Galliano liqueur (classic vanilla) – 15 ml;
  • ice in cubes – 25-200 grams.

The amount of ice depends on the method of preparation. If all the ingredients are simply mixed in a shaker, then only a couple of cubes are required. In the case of lowering burning vodka into a mixture of liqueurs and vermouth, the glass should be filled as much as possible with ice to cushion it so that the glass does not break when it falls.

For a simple serving, mix all the ingredients in a shaker, pour the finished cocktail into a glass with a few ice cubes. Drink through a straw.

The ship crash simulation technology is somewhat more complicated:

1. Fill a tall glass (highball, hurricane) or faceted glass (often used at home) with ice. Pour in the vermouth and two liqueurs. Stir, then cover with a beer stand (any strong cardboard). This part of the cocktail symbolizes the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

2. Pour vodka into a glass. Place on top of a glass. In this case, the stack imitates a ship.

3. Set fire to vodka and wait 3-5 seconds.

4. With a sharp movement, pull out the beer stand (cardboard) so that the stack falls into the glass (the ship sinks to the bottom).

5. Lower the tube, mix slightly. Drink in slow sips.
