The Green Mile is a strong (35-40 degrees), but easy-to-drink cocktail of light green color and slightly viscous consistency, which will appeal to lovers of unusual alcohol. The citrus tint of taste perfectly complements the light bitterness of absinthe and the spicy sourness of kiwi. The drink is not related to the film of the same name starring Tom Hanks and was named because of the characteristic color. A blender is required for preparation.
The year, name of the creator and place of origin of the Green Mile cocktail is unknown. According to legend, the recipe was invented by Moscow bartenders at one of their private parties and for a couple of years they did not talk about the cocktail to the general public, considering it an elite liquor for the insiders. After some time, the composition nevertheless leaked into the environment of bar culture lovers.
Interestingly, in the West, a cocktail with the same name (The Green Mile) is made from Malibu coconut liqueur, Midori green melon liqueur, Cointreau orange and pineapple juice. However, most tasters prefer the Russian version of the drink, considering its taste to be better balanced.
Composition and proportions:
- absinthe – 30 ml;
- Cointreau orange liqueur – 30 ml;
- kiwi – 1 piece;
- fresh mint – 1 sprig (optional for decoration).
Cointreau can be replaced with colorless orange liqueurs Triple Sec or Grand Marnier. In order not to spoil the appearance of the drink, use only green absinthe.
The cocktail is served without ice, so all ingredients must be well chilled before mixing.
