Sweet dessert cocktail with a pleasant minty flavor, during the preparation of which not a single insect will be harmed. Simple technology and affordable ingredients allow you to make a Grasshopper cocktail at home. We will consider the classic recipe and proportions further.
Historical information
According to one version, the Grasshopper cocktail was created in 1907. His recipe was invented by the famous bartender, known to the world under the pseudonym Bill Cocktail. According to another version, the drink appeared in the French Quarter of New Orleans in the 50s and 60s of the last century and quickly became popular in the southern states of America. The cocktail was named “Grasshopper” in honor of the color green.
Initially, “Grasshopper” was served in layers in a shot (glass). Coffee liqueur was poured at the bottom, then a layer of mint liqueur was placed, and cream was placed on top. Gradually, this rule became obsolete, as it required the bartender more time to cook and had little effect on the taste. Now all the ingredients of the cocktail are simply mixed in a shaker and poured into a glass.
Composition and proportions:
- green mint liqueur – 30 ml;
- cocoa liqueur – 30 ml;
- cream (11%) – 30 ml;
- ice cubes – 100 grams;
- mint – 1 leaf.
Technology of preparation:
1. Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
2. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
3. Pour the contents of the shaker into a chilled martini glass through a strainer (bar strainer) so that ice does not get into the glass. At home, you can use any available strainer.
4. Top with a mint leaf or grated chocolate.
5. For women, serve with a straw. Drink in small sips.
Alternative cocktail options
To make the “Flying Grasshopper”, it is enough to replace the cream with vodka. “Gray Grasshopper” is prepared by adding 20 ml of strong black coffee to the recipe.
