Fiz (from English to fizz “sizzle” or “foam”) – a type of cocktail, which necessarily includes sour juice, such as lemon or lime, and soda. The alcohol base is changing. Gin Fizz is the most famous member of this group and is famous for its long shaking in a shaker.
Historical reference. The first written mention of “physes” dates back to 1887, when the legendary mixologist Jerry Thomas published recipes for six cocktails with sour juice and soda in his book The Bartender’s Guide.
“Gin Fizz” appeared in the New Orleans bar “Imperial Cabinet” and in 1900-1940. considered the city’s most popular cocktail. Henry Ramos, who came up with the recipe, had a separate group of bartenders who worked in shifts around the clock to make enough servings for the queue. Before the introduction of Prohibition, the proportions of the drink were kept secret, later the exact recipe was published in the press by Brother Henry. It turned out that in addition to traditional ingredients, egg white was added to the composition, which, together with soda, created a geyser effect.
Composition and proportions:
- gin – 40 ml;
- lemon juice – 30 ml;
- sugar syrup – 10 ml;
- soda (mineral water) – 100 ml;
- ice – 100 grams;
- lemon – 1 slice.
Cocktail recipe Gin fizz
1. Mix ice, gin, juice and sugar syrup in a shaker. Mixing time – at least 60 seconds (in the classic version 5 minutes).
2. Pour the mixture through a strainer (strainer) into a tall glass (highball).
3. Top with soda.
4. Garnish with a slice of lemon.
5. Serve with a straw.

- Silver (Silver Fizz) – with egg white;
- Golden Fizz – with egg yolk;
- Royal (Royal Fizz) – with a whole egg,
- Diamond Fizz – sparkling wine (champagne) instead of soda;
- Green (Green Fizz) – with mint liqueur Crème de menthe.
