Fans of exotic spirits appreciate this cocktail for its original color, rich taste and ease of preparation. Any novice bartender can make a Blue Lagoon cocktail at home. The classic recipe uses readily available ingredients and blends them together to create a true masterpiece.
Historical reference. The Blue Lagoon recipe was invented in 1960 by American bartender Andy McElhone. At first it was believed that the cocktail was named after the film of the same name, which was quite popular at the time. But later it turned out that the movie has nothing to do with the drink. The Blue Lagoon is a thermal spa in Iceland where McElhone once visited. The color of the resulting cocktail reminded him of the beauties he saw there.
According to another version, the Blue Lagoon was first made by the French artist Paul Gauguin, after doctors forbade him to drink absinthe. After moving to Tahiti, he began experimenting with mixing different alcoholic beverages. But this hypothesis was not confirmed, and remained a legend.
Blue Lagoon Recipe
Composition and proportions:
- Blue liqueur Curacao – 10 ml;
- vodka – 50 ml;
- sprite – 150 ml;
- lemon – 1 slice;
- ice cubes – 200 grams.
Preparation
1. Fill a tall glass (highball) with ice cubes.
2. Mix vodka and liquor in a shaker.
3. Pour the contents of the shaker into a glass.
4. Add a sprite.
5. Decorate the resulting cocktail with a slice of lemon.
Each of the ingredients has a role to play. Vodka gives the cocktail strength and bitterness, blue liquor is responsible for the sweetness and original color, sprite adds notes of citrus, reduces the strength and eliminates the burning taste of vodka.
Perhaps you will like some of them too. Recently, many bartenders have begun replacing vodka with light rum or gin. If you want, you can try, but personally I don’t see the point in this.
The combination of alcohol with Sprite can lead to rapid intoxication. To neutralize this effect, you should mix the drink well with a spoon, then carbon dioxide will disappear, making the cocktail not so intoxicating.
The entire cooking technology is shown in the video, but the proportions are different and one more ingredient is added – lemon juice. This recipe can be considered as an alternative to the classic version.
