Coccomycosis control measures and cherry processing

Coccomycosis control measures and cherry processing

Coccomycosis can appear: on cherries, cherries, plums and cherry plums. If you do not fight with it, the tree freezes in winter.

Coccomycosis control measures

This fungus came from Scandinavia in the 60s and infected the cherry and other stone fruit cultures. The spores were easily carried by the wind, and the infection was massive. It manifests itself in the form of reddish-brown spots appearing on the leaves of trees. On the reverse side, in place of the spots, there is a white bloom. Gradually, the leaf dies off and falls off. When severely damaged, the tree loses its foliage. If the fungus captures the fruit, they dry out and die. The most unpleasant thing about this is that a weakened tree does not withstand winter frosts and dies.

Coccomycosis spores are easily transferred from nearby cherry trees

The disease appears in spring and summer in warm, humid weather. The favorable temperature for the development of the fungus is 18-23 ° C. Can protect against disease:

  • hot dry weather: in areas with high temperatures, the fungus does not survive;
  • good lighting: cherries with a free crown in sunny areas are less likely to suffer;
  • prophylaxis;
  • correct selection of the variety.

Measures to combat the fungus are associated with work in the garden: digging the soil, whitewashing the trunks, destroying plant debris, trimming the thickened crown, warming weakened crops for the winter.

Cherry processing for coccomycosis

Cherries are more vulnerable to fungus, so they have to be treated more often than others. There are cherries that are more resistant to this disease, and it is worth stopping at them when choosing a variety for growing:

  • “Chocolate Girl”;
  • “Bystrinka”;
  • “Novella”;
  • “Hedge”;
  • Nord Star;
  • Dessertnaya Morozova;
  • “Malinovka”.

For the garden, you can also choose felt cherries, which are not affected by this fungus at all.

In case of illness, the tree will have to be treated with fungicides. This should be done several times per season, but not at the time of fruiting. The first treatment should be carried out in the spring before the formation of buds.

You can use the drugs “Skor”, “Ordan”, “Oksikhom”. When buds appear, they should be treated with Horus by dissolving 2 g of the drug in 10 liters of water. When flowering is over, it is worth sprinkling the crown again.

In case of emergency, you can turn to folk remedies for processing during fruiting. You need to use copper sulfate or a soapy solution with the addition of ash. For 10 liters of water, 2 kg of wood ash and 60 g of laundry soap are used.

Preventive cleaning of the garden from plant debris, and not only under the tree, will help to avoid contamination. Choosing the right variety can also cure the disease itself.
