Spread cobweb (Cortinarius delibutus) is a conditionally edible lamellar specimen of the genus Cobweb. Because of the mucous surface of the cap, it received another name – the greased cobweb.

Belongs to the class Agaricomycetes. Elias Magnus Fries, a Swedish botanist and mycologist, classified this mushroom in 1938.

It has a yellowish color, covered with mucus.

Cap Description

The size of the cap in diameter is up to 9 cm. The surface is flat-convex, mucous. Has various shades of yellow. The plates are small, closely adherent. As it grows, it changes color from bluish-violet to beige.

Spores are reddish, spherical, warty.

The pulp is quite dense. When ripe, the color changes from purple to yellow. It does not have a characteristic mushroom smell and taste.

The leg is cylindrical in shape, rather long, reaches 10 cm. Thickened closer to the base, yellow or whitish.

Where and how to grow

This specimen grows in coniferous and mixed forests. It can be found in the northwestern and northern regions of Our Country, in Primorye. In Europe, it grows in Belgium, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, Switzerland and Sweden.

Is the mushroom edible or not?

This species is considered little known, conditionally edible. Some sources claim that it is inedible.

Comment! Although some mushroom lovers consider it possible to use the product fresh, this can bring significant harm to the human body.

Since it has a low nutritional value, it is not of particular interest to mushroom pickers.

Twins and their differences

The representative has several doppelgangers. Among them:

  1. Cobweb slimy. It has a more brown tint. Its surface is more heavily covered with mucus. This species is conditionally edible.
