Why is my ear blocked and tinnitus? Why do such ailments appear? Should such symptoms be consulted with an ENT specialist? Do these symptoms indicate any serious medical conditions? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.

Why are my ears clogged with tinnitus?

Good day. I have had problems for a long time which I believe may be ENT related. It all started about three or four months ago. There was such a strange noise in my ears, I also had a feeling of clogging, most often during bathing, contact with water. There was no such thing before. I underestimated the problem for a long time, but it started to occur more and more often. For about a month, the problem has become really annoying, the tinnitus is increasing and appearing more and more often, and I also have the feeling of a blocked ear more and more.

Yesterday I made an appointment to the ENT specialist, but I still have to wait for her and the ailment is bothering me. What is the cause of a clogged ear i tinnitus? Why did such ailments arise in me? I didn’t have any injuries, nothing has changed in my life and my ailments suddenly became really bothersome. I wonder what it might have come from and I can’t think of anything. Could I ask for some advice? Thank you in advance.

The doctor explains the causes of clogged ears and tinnitus

The exact cause of tinnitus it is not thoroughly known and understood. Typically, tinnitus is associated with hearing loss or loss associated with damage to the inner ear, most commonly associated with the natural aging process or as a result of exposure to noise. We are talking then about neurosensory hearing loss. The cause of hearing impairment can also be conductive, i.e., obstruction or obstruction of the pathway through which sound waves normally reach the ear, i.e., diseases of the outer and middle ear.

Due to the occurrence in Mrs. symptom of a feeling of obstruction in the ear It can be said with certainty that the cause of tinnitus is conductive, i.e. it is most likely caused by the presence of earwax plug that prevents sound waves from reaching the middle ear. Other ENT causes of tinnitus include perforation of the tympanic membrane, otitis media, e.g., otitis media with effusion, otosclerosis, Meniere’s disease, or vestibulocochlear schwannoma.

Are you seeing disturbing symptoms? Analyze them yourself in the medical questionnaire and decide whether to go to the doctor.

It is worthwhile before visiting an ENT specialist if you have a suspicion that the cause of tinnitus in the ear and the feeling of its clogging is the wax plug, give dedicated ear drops for a few days to help dissolve the wax plug. Perhaps, without the intervention of a doctor, the plug will fall out by itself during the bath, but if it does not, the drops will help to dissolve the plug so that it can be removed more easily. To extract the wax plug, the doctor usually injects a syringe with warm water into the ear, which should rinse the plug from the ear. Do not use ear buds to remove the earwax plug yourself, this may cause it to sit deeper, the plug becomes heavier to remove, and may even damage the eardrum.
