The clitoris is part of the female reproductive system, a structure similar to the male penis, but unlike the penis, it does not contain the urethra and is not part of the urinary system. Thousands of nerve endings make the clitoris an extremely sensitive organ, and its tactile stimulation contributes to the feeling of pleasure and sexual excitement.

The clitoris is an unpaired organ shaped like the letter Y. It consists of a body, two legs, bulbs and two cavernous bodies. The legs and cavernous bodies are located under the labia majora on either side of the vagina. The clitoral bulbs are located under the labia minora. When excited, the cavernous bodies and bulbs will fill with blood and swell.

The length of the visible part of the clitoris is from 4 to 10 mm, and the total length is from 8 to 20 cm !!!

If you understand the anatomy of the penis, then all this might seem familiar to you. The penis also has a cavernous body, a bulb and legs.

This is due to the fact that until the 12th week of intrauterine development, children of both sexes develop in the same way. And only from the 12th week, the genital organs normally differentiate into a penis or clitoris, depending on the set of chromosomes and hormones.

There are approximately 8,000 nerve endings in the head of the clitoris, which makes it incredibly sensitive. This is the only organ that was created for only one function – pleasure.

To summarize: the clitoris is a fairly large organ that exists only for pleasure. Scientists who insist on the existence of only one orgasm are based on one fact – any orgasm somehow occurs when some part of the clitoris is stimulated.

Which side to choose: for one orgasm or for different types – you decide. And we just told two points of view.

Clitoris – role and structure. Clitoral surgery – explanation

The clitoris as an external genital organ

The female reproductive system consists of internal and external genitalia. The first group includes the uterus, cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and vagina. The clitoris, on the other hand, is part of the external organs (the so-called female vulva). They are also: the vestibule of the vagina (it houses the entrance to the vagina and the urethra), the labia majora and small, and the pubic mound. The clitoris is an odd organ.

Clitoris – location and structure

The clitoris is located in the area of the anterior junction of the labia minora. Its shape is described as cylindrical, the length is about 1-2 cm, however this size may vary greatly depending on the particular case. Like the penis, the clitoris has a foreskin that protects the organ (the labia also performs this task).

In anatomy, three main parts of the clitoris are distinguished:

  1. clitoral legs – support the external structures of the clitoris and at the same time the beginning of the cavernous bodies,
  2. the body of the clitoris – inside there are cavernous bodies which, under the influence of stimuli, fill with blood, which may lead to the erection of the clitoris and enlargement of its size,
  3. acorn -part located at the apex of the shank.

The clitoris is an organ that is vascularized and strongly innervated, which makes it the most erogenous place in a woman’s body, sensitive to touch and pressure. Clitoral stimulation can lead a woman to orgasm.

Ailments related to the clitoris

Most clitoral medical problems are not serious. In some cases, this organ can cause problems, including:

  1. clitoral hypertrophy – is usually a congenital condition and may occur in premature girls. It happens that hormonal factors are responsible for the hypertrophy. The symptom is the size of the clitoris exceeding its physiological norm, which it can cause discomfort and pain during sexual intercourse. The method of treatment depends on the cause of the hypertrophy,
  2. clitoral inflammation – it happens very rarely, it may be caused by allergy or hypersensitivity to chemicals contained in bath liquids, spermicides, lubricants,
  3. itchy clitoris – a likely cause is a fungal infection. The itching and burning sensation are not limited to the clitoris itself, but involve other parts of the vulva. This condition requires a gynecological consultation, treatment as well informing the sexual partner and be careful during intercourse (fungal infections are contagious),
  4. clitoral hematoma – its symptom may be swelling and increased sensitivity organ. The type of therapy must be decided by a doctor who will probably recommend temporarily refraining from sexual contact,
  5. clitoral pain – this may be associated with a very rare disease called vulvodynia that manifests itself chronic pain, irritation or discomfort in the female genitaliawhile they are not related to any infection. The cause of the disease is unknown,
  6. swelling and edema of the clitoris – may occur after sexual intercourse, especially when it is very intense. The symptoms should disappear spontaneously shortly after the end of the intercourse.

A woman’s reproductive organs are very delicate structures, prone to infections and irritation. In case of doubts about their health, it is necessary to seek gynecological advice.

The role of the clitoris in female sexual pleasure

Many women are unable to experience sexual pleasure (orgasm) through penis penetration alone. For these women, stimulating the clitoris in a pleasant way may be the only way to orgasm. For women who achieve orgasm through penetration, stimulating the clitoris can improve orgasm strength.

A clitoral orgasm is slightly different from a vaginal orgasm. The clitoral orgasm is definitely achieved faster than the latter. This is mainly because the clitoris has a lot of blood supply and nerves. A vaginal orgasm spreads throughout a woman’s body, and a clitoral orgasm is characterized by a feeling of warmth that sweeps over the body. A clitoral orgasm is also much shorter than a vaginal orgasm.

Is it possible to remove the clitoris, i.e. about female circumcision

Circumcision of women, also known as female genital mutilation or removal of female genitals. It consists in removing the clitoris and labia minora, so that the woman does not feel sexual pleasure. This kind of mutilation often occurs as a girl reaches puberty. When a young woman’s clitoris is removed, it is believed that she will not cheat on her husband / partner as she will not be able to obtain any sexual pleasure as a result. Sexual desire is then suppressed in her, and this practice is to make her pure for one man. In most countries of the world this practice is scheduledhowever, it is still continued in many countries, especially in African countries. It should be noted that female circumcision has a huge negative impact not only on her physical health but also on her mental health. Circumcision in a woman makes you feel after the organ has been excised severe pain and burning sensation when urinatingmenstruation problems also arise.

Clitoral area plastic surgery

At present, with widely developed medicine, women who struggle with problems around the clitoris can undergo surgery. They are especially recommended for women whose skin fold covers the clitoris, or there are other deformities in this area. The following treatments are distinguished:

  1. correction of clitoral folds (pseudohoodoplasty) – this is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess tissues from the clitoral area that cover it and make it difficult to stimulate it,
  2. clitoral foreskin reduction – it is a procedure involving the surgical correction of these tissues. Then, the clitoris is exposed, allowing it to be stimulated,
  3. frenuloplasty of the clitoris (phrenuloplasty) – this procedure is performed when it is damaged, as a result of which the clitoris is directed asymmetrically in one direction.
