Climbing rose Rosarium Uetersen is an excellent proof that everything comes in due time. This beauty was bred in 1977. But then its large flowers seemed too old-fashioned to gardeners all over the world. They considered them to be similar to the dresses of Victorian ladies, decorated from head to toe with lush ruffles. Having not received the deserved popularity, the Rosarium Uetersen rose was left for as long as 23 years. And only in 2000, when the vintage style came back into fashion, flower growers remembered the rose Rosarium Uetersen. Since then, this climbing rose has only strengthened its position, maintaining its recognition and popularity.
Characteristics of a variety
Rosarium Uetersen rightfully belongs to the brightest representatives of climbing roses of the climber group.
These roses are perfect for growing in the middle lane and the Moscow region.
This variety of climbing rose has fairly large bushes. In height, they can grow up to 4 meters, and in width – no more than 1,5 meters. The shoots of this rose are thick, strong and slightly prickly. They have thin and long spines that are not always visible behind the glossy dense dark green foliage. That is why experienced flower growers work with this rose exclusively in tight gloves.
The variety Rosarium Uetersen can be grown both in bush form and used for vertical gardening. In the photo below, you can appreciate the beauty of this variety in various forms of cultivation.
In addition, Rosarium Uetersen belongs to those few varieties of roses that grow beautifully in the form of a stem. Proof of this is the photo below.
The flowering of this variety of climbing roses is simply amazing. At its very beginning, densely leafy bushes of the Rosarium Uetersen variety are covered with many fragrant buds with a color from bright crimson to rich dark pink. The buds of this variety are located on the bush in groups of 3 to 7 pieces on each brush. As they bloom, they acquire a light silver tint. Fully opened buds will have a diameter of 10 – 12 cm. Each rose of this variety consists of more than 100 petals. Therefore, as you can see in the photo below, fully opened flowers become almost flat and languid in appearance.
This climbing rose will delight the gardener with its flowers throughout the summer. In this case, only the first flowering will be the most abundant. With each subsequent wave-like flowering, the number of buds on the bushes will decrease. By mid-September, only a few of them may remain on the Rosarium Uetersen variety. Despite this, even a few flowers of this variety can fill the garden with a light, captivating and slightly sweet aroma with hints of wild rose and apple.
As for resistance to diseases, here the rose variety Rosarium Uetersen is above all praise. He not only has good immunity, but also winters well in our climate, which is not entirely favorable for roses.
Recommendations for growing
The successful cultivation of the climbing rose variety Rosarium Uetersen depends primarily on the seedling. If the seedling is weak, then it will be quite difficult to grow a good and strong bush from it.
The price for them will vary from 300 to 1500 rubles per seedling.
When choosing a seedling of this rose, you need to pay attention to the following parameters:
- root neck – it should have a rich dark green color;
- root system – it must be flexible, without traces of rot;
- on the number of live shoots – a healthy rose seedling should have at least 3 of them.
The best time to plant a rose seedling of the Rosarium Uetersen variety will be autumn. Spring planting is also allowed. In order for the seedling to survive planting better, it is recommended to soak its root system in water with the addition of any growth stimulator, for example, Kornevin.
After that, you can proceed directly to the landing. To do this, choose a sunny and well-ventilated place. It is under such conditions that the flowering of this rose will be especially lush and long. In the chosen place, it is necessary to dig a hole with a depth and width of 50 cm. Before immersing a seedling in it, add rotted manure or other organic fertilizer there and spill it well with water.
After that, the rose seedling is placed in the hole, and its root system and neck are sprinkled with earth. It is very important that the neck be covered with earth by 5-6 cm. The photo below shows the correct location of the seedling in the hole.
If planting was carried out in the fall, then the seedling will need to be covered with non-woven material. When spring planting, this is not necessary.
The variety Rosarium Uetersen does not differ in increased requirements for care. But the first few years after planting, he still needs a little more attention than already adult bushes. Caring for a rose variety Rosarium Uetersen will consist of the following procedures:
- Watering. In a typical summer, this rose should be watered no more than once a week. At the same time, at least one bucket of water must be brought under each bush. In dry summers, watering should be carried out more often, but only as the topsoil dries.
- Additional fertilizing. Fertilization is especially important for young seedlings, whose age has not exceeded 3 years. For these purposes, both mineral and organic fertilizers are suitable. The number of top dressings will directly depend on the age of the bush. The younger he is, the more often top dressing is carried out and vice versa. The first three years after planting, it is recommended to feed the bushes 4-5 times per season. From the 4th year, the number of top dressings is reduced to 2 times per season.
- Trimming. This procedure is necessary not only to prevent the strong thickening of the bushes, but also to ensure long and abundant flowering. The best time to prune this variety is spring or autumn. First of all, it is necessary to remove all dead and diseased shoots. Only after that you can start pruning healthy shoots. However, it is not recommended to cut them more than half. The cut should be made with a sharp pruner at an angle of 45 degrees above the kidney. The photo below shows what the correct cut should look like.
- Shelter for the winter. In our climate, not a single variety of roses can overwinter without this procedure. To do this, before the onset of frost, you can begin to slowly remove the leaves from the bushes of this variety of roses. In this case, it is very important to start removing leaves from the bottom, gradually moving up the shoot. After that, the shoots must be gently pressed to the ground. You can fix them in this position with a wire or a metal hook, as shown in the photo below.
After that, spruce branches or dry branches with foliage should be placed under the shoots and on them. Only then the bushes are covered with non-woven material. In this form, the bushes should remain until the onset of spring. With her arrival, they must be carefully and gradually disclosed.
