Clematis Honora pruning group

In order to maintain the beauty of a weaving plant at home, it is necessary to properly organize the shortening of the shoots. Representatives of culture are divided into three types of branching, each of which needs an individual approach. Pruning of branches stimulates the formation of vines, positively affects the development of roots.

The Clematis Honora variety, like the mother plant Gipsy Queen, actively branches, therefore it belongs to the 3rd group. The culture forms inflorescences only on young shoots of the current year. The lashes are cut almost to ground level, bushes with 4 internodes, 20 to 50 cm long, are left above the surface. The procedure is carried out in the fall, from October to November.

Planting and caring for Clematis Honora

Liana prefers to grow in fertile sandy, loamy soil with a low acid and alkaline reaction. Clematis Honora grows well in both full sun and partial shade. Areas with a close occurrence of groundwater, not protected from drafts and near the house are contraindicated. The recommended distance from buildings, trees is 30 cm.

Planting a seedling of clematis Honor is carried out in autumn and spring. Dig a hole in advance according to the scheme 60 * 60 * 60 cm, sprinkle with a thick layer of drainage (at least 15 cm) from expanded clay or broken bricks on top. At the bottom add a mixture of:

  • compost;
  • sand;
  • peat.
Attention! Fresh organics are dangerous for the roots of Clematis Honor, so the use of manure is prohibited.

On the sides of the hole, supports for lashes are dug in, up to 2,5 m high. A hill of loose soil is formed above the nutrient “cushion”. A bush is planted so that the neck is 5 cm above the soil level. Gently straighten the lower parts along the ground, bury and mulch. After the procedure, it is plentifully watered.

So that the flowers of Honor’s clematis do not differ from the photo, it is necessary to organize competent care. Cultivation consists of irrigation at the right time and regular fertilization. In the first year, the plant lives on stocks from the “pillow”, but from the next season they are fed in spring and summer every 2 weeks. Complex mineral preparations and humus alternate.

The lack of moisture negatively affects the appearance of the vine. In the heat, the buds of Clematis Honor become smaller, and the flowering period is shortened. In the heat, they are abundantly watered with settled warm water, trying to get on the foliage. The procedure is carried out after sunset, 3 times a week. Young specimens need 20 liters, and mature ones – at least 40. They provide removal of excess moisture from the hole, regularly loosen the soil, mulch with peat and sawdust.

Important! Stagnation of liquid at the roots can cause clematis Honor to rot.

Weaving plants must be fixed on supports. In landscape design, trellises in the form of arches, fans and pyramids are used. The thickness of the rails should not be more than 1,2 cm in diameter, otherwise it is difficult for the bush to branch. The more greenery on Honor’s clematis, the heavier the culture after the rain. When choosing a material for construction, a strong metal mesh on pipes is preferred.

Preparation for winter

Undemanding liana withstands low temperatures, but does not like cold without snow. When purchasing Clematis Honor for the Moscow region, you must definitely take care of a reliable shelter. In autumn, the plant is abundantly watered and fertilized. Before frost, the lashes are cut off, the basal neck is treated with Bordeaux liquid.

A bucket of humus is poured around the Honor clematis bush, spudded to a height of 15 cm with a mixture of sand and ash. In November, the ground is mulched with sawdust and pine needles. The plant is not afraid of low temperatures, but of spring dampening. Protective structures are removed after stable warm weather is established.

Reproduction

Large-flowered species do not retain their characteristics when sown. In the description with a photo of the clematis Honor variety, it is indicated that the hybrid is bred vegetatively. Young specimens up to 6 years old can be propagated by dividing the root. The overgrown vine is carefully dug up, cleaned of the ground and cut with a pruner. Sprouts with buds on the root collar will take root.

In summer, a young plant is obtained by tapping. A faded whip with a noticeable upper eye is fixed in pots with earth. Clematis is sprayed, watered with a solution of “Kornevin”. As it develops, fresh soil is added. By autumn, strong seedlings of Clematis Honora grow from the branches.

During autumn pruning, cuttings can be cut from strong branches. The foliage is removed, the stiffened part is separated to the first living bud. They are laid in a ditch with peat, covered with earth, covered with a thick layer of foliage and spruce branches for the winter. In the spring, the site is watered abundantly, mulched with humus and sawdust. In autumn, clematis cuttings are ready to be transplanted to the infused place of growth.

Diseases and pests

Clematis Honora is a tenacious vine that has strong immunity. If you regularly violate the rules of agricultural technology, then the culture weakens. Plants suffer from fungal diseases:

  • fusarium wilt;
  • powdery mildew;
  • gray rot.

Diseases affect the roots, then destroy the aerial parts. You can notice the manifestations in early spring. In order not to die Clematis Honora, it is necessary to treat the affected vines with fungicides (“Fundazol”, “Azocen”). Fungal rust appears as brown spots on leaves, shoots. Diseased specimens dry, the branches are deformed. A remedy based on copper chloride and 1% Bordeaux liquid will help to destroy the disease.

In dry weather, Clematis Honora is affected by spider mites and scale insects, which feed on intercellular leaf sap. Migrating aphids parasitize on greenery, shoots. In the spring, slugs and grape snails are dangerous, and in winter, mice gnaw out the roots.

Conclusion

Bright Clematis Honora is an original hybrid that will help decorate the area next to the house. The plant is not capricious when grown, so care is clear even to novice gardeners. Liana is easy to propagate vegetatively at home.

Reviews about Clematis Honora

Svetlana, 35 years old, Krasnodar
The beautiful Clematis Honora has been growing on the site for more than 5 years. For the winter, I cut it almost to the root, and by the summer the lashes are actively growing. In one season it grows up to 3 m, throughout the summer it pleases with huge velvety buds. In the bright sun, the flowers fade, so the bush was transplanted into partial shade. For all the time I have never been sick, only aphids sometimes appear. Easily propagated by layering, division: now all her friends have an elegant liana in the yard.

A very beautiful variety of clematis. Honora, with proper care, grows up to 3 m in height, so support is a must. Instead of a trellis, a gazebo was adapted for the plant. In autumn, I cut off all the old branches, mulch with sawdust and cover with spruce branches. With the first warmth in spring, the bush quickly reaches gigantic proportions. The buds are huge, with wavy velvety petals. So that the flowers do not shrink, I water abundantly in the heat. I fertilize actively only at the beginning of the season and in summer.
