Cleaning your cat’s fur: good advice. Video
Cats create a special comfort in the house. However, they are often the cause of the disorder. Wool sticking to upholstered furniture, carpets and clothes, gathering into lumps and getting into food can become a real problem for both housewives and other household members and guests. To prevent a shedding cat from causing you inconvenience, brush it regularly, and also take the time to properly clean the apartment.
Wildlife cats only molt during the warmer months. Shedding excess hair by summer, with the onset of cold weather, the animals acquire a new thick fur coat. Domestic cats living in heated rooms shed all year round. Your cat may have long or short hair and will shed it anyway.
The reason for the increased shedding can also be health problems. If you notice that there are obvious bald patches on the animal’s fur, it may be worth contacting your veterinarian. The animal can scratch the skin and pull out the fur due to eczema, shingles and some other diseases. Wool can be especially active in young animals, as well as after some hormonal changes – for example, pregnancy and childbirth.
Persian and European short-haired cats shed most actively. The most “non-shedding” of the fluffy breeds are Siberian
Part of the fur is swallowed by the cat during licking. This can lead to a new problem – regurgitation of indigestible wool balls. Sometimes the cat will regurgitate them with food, leaving stains on carpets, upholstered furniture and other surfaces.
Excess wool: how to deal with it
The main recipe for dealing with excess hair is to regularly comb the animal. Buy a fine comb or brush and treat the animal’s skin at least twice a week. When shedding heavily, brush your cat daily. Pay special attention to the lower body – the base of the tail, fluffy trousers and belly. Do not use slicker brushes, they damage the structure of the coat and can scratch the skin of the animal.
For combing short-haired cats, it is convenient to use a regular male comb with fine teeth. It removes well not only guard hair, but also a thick undercoat
If you are unable to brush your shorthaired cat, regularly “iron” it with wet hands. Moisten your palms with water and run along the pet’s fur, dead hairs will remain on your hands. Repeat the procedure until most of the loose hair is removed. Usually cats tolerate this treatment calmly, and some animals like it very much.
To prevent cats from regurgitating hair, regularly add a special paste to their food, which helps to remove hairballs from the body.
A regular vacuum cleaner does not always cope with fine and tenacious cat hair. Get a vacuum cleaner with a turbo brush and clean floors, carpets and upholstered furniture daily. An alternative to a vacuum cleaner is a roller brush with adhesive tape. It can be used to quickly clean armchairs, sofas, decorative pillows, curtains and clothes.
It is possible to collect wool from furniture and carpets without special devices. Moisten your palms with water and sweep over the surfaces – the cat hairs will stick. Wash them off and repeat the treatment. This makes it easy to clean bedspreads, pillows and stuffed toys.
Place rugs with a hard surface on the floor. Cats will rub against them, leaving loose hair. You just have to shake it out or clean it, it is much more convenient than collecting hairballs throughout the apartment.
