An aquarium is a whole ecosystem that needs constant care and cleaning. For this, it is necessary to have theoretical knowledge, skills and an understanding of basic biological processes.

Cleaning the aquarium should start with the glass panes. To do this, you can purchase a special scraper at pet stores, or use a blade or washcloth. If the aquarium is made of acrylic, no solid tools should be used. Be sure to unplug all electrical equipment before cleaning the walls.

Never use detergents when cleaning the aquarium glass. Even a small part that can enter the aquarium will have an extremely negative effect on the biological balance and health of the inhabitants of the aquarium.

If there are live plants in the aquarium, then they also need to be cared for. Examine them carefully for rotten parts that need to be removed. If necessary, plants can be transplanted or pruned.

Waste often accumulates in the ground, which must also be removed. This is achieved by a so-called siphon. In specialized stores, inventory is sold that helps to carry out the procedure quickly and efficiently. You can also make the fixture yourself using a hose and funnel. Lower the end of the hose with a funnel to the bottom of the aquarium, and direct the other end into the prepared container. As a result, with the flow of water, the dirt will go into this container.

Then proceed to clean up the decorations. You can use a brush, rinse under running water. Some decorations, such as artificial corals, are cleaned with bleach such as Whiteness.

Decorations or stones that can absorb liquid cannot be cleaned with bleach

Don’t forget to change the water. It is correct to drain about 30 percent of the tank volume and refill with fresh water. You can use pre-prepared water or directly from the tap.

After cleaning, the water in the aquarium may become cloudy. This should take place within XNUMX hours.

Important points when cleaning your aquarium

Examine the equipment carefully. Rinse the filter media if necessary. It is recommended to rinse fillers made of synthetic materials with water drained from the aquarium, and not under running water. This will allow bacteria to maintain biological balance back into the aquarium. Watch out for the food of the fish: food should not remain at the bottom of the aquarium. The automatic feeder simplifies the feeding task. Be aware of the water temperature in the aquarium. For convenience, you can install a special heater and thermometer.
