Even despite the huge popularity of body positivity, many of us today vote for a smooth body without excess hair. And in this matter, it is important to decide which type of hair removal or depilation (even with the help of an electric epilator) to prefer. Our focus was not the most popular today, but quite an effective procedure for removing excess vegetation – electrolysis.
What is electrolysis and how does it work
But over time, they were replaced by more advanced technologies and techniques. Electrolysis is still in demand among women all over the world today, and this is not at all like homemade electric epilators that simply pull out hairs, that is, in fact, provide electric depilation. Recall that epilation does not just remove hairs, but destroys the follicle, eliminating the possibility of hair growth in principle.
How does electrolysis work? A special needle is inserted under the skin at the base of the hair follicle, which plays the role of an electrode. The current acts on the hair root and destroys the hair follicle. As a result, the hair stops growing.
Pros and cons of electric hair removal
Speaking about the pros and cons of the procedure, it is impossible not to note that the effect of electrolysis does not come as quickly as we would like. However, let’s analyze all the advantages and disadvantages in more detail.
Here are the obvious benefits of electric hair removal:
suitable for any part of the body;
works on any type and color of hair;
more economical than photo and laser;
fewer contraindications than other methods;
100% result.
But there are also disadvantages that explain why electrolysis is not in the top procedures:
soreness – the procedure is very uncomfortable for those who have a low pain threshold;
the result, although 100%, is achieved only a couple of years after the first procedure.
Electric hair removal methods
How electrolysis is done, what to expect from epilation, Maria Nevskaya comments and talks about a wide variety of methods for electrolysis of hair.
Electrolysis
In the process of epilation by electrolysis, a direct current of low voltage is used. Electrolysis is effective, but laborious: the session lasts quite a long time. Therefore, it is recommended to remove a very small amount of hair. After the procedure, redness is possible, and the process itself is painful.
Thermolysis
During thermolysis, high-frequency current is used. It differs in that hair removal occurs in 2 seconds and in one session you can get rid of 30% of the required amount of hair. Great!
Blend method
Blend method – from the English word blend (“mix”). This is the same hair removal with current, but during the procedure, heat generated by alternating current is used to speed up the chemical reaction of electrolysis. As a result, the hairs are removed faster, and most importantly, the bulbs are affected. Another plus is that when electrolysis using the blend method, it is possible to combine, for example, with thermolysis. Permanent hair removal by the blend method is today considered one of the progressive methods of electrolysis. But still, compared to laser hair removal, it loses.
Flash Method
Flash (flash) uses a pulse duration of thousandths of a second. The flash is not as painful as, for example, thermolysis or electrolysis, but discomfort is present in any case.
How to prepare for electric hair removal
Hairs on the treated areas should grow at least 5 mm.
The day before the epilation, it would be good to scrape the skin.
Please note: the skin should not be tanned.
No depilation, waxing and sugaring, at least a couple of weeks before the procedure!
Try not to prescribe a massage session to exclude increased blood flow.
If in doubt, a consultation with a dermatologist is helpful.
Contraindications include:
viral, colds;
гиперпигментация;
the period of breastfeeding and pregnancy;
any skin problems: dermatitis, cuts, wounds, eczema;
exacerbation of herpes;
Thyroid gland diseases;
diabetes;
fungal diseases.
How electrolysis is done
First of all, you should prepare for the fact that the process of electrolysis is not fast, because you will have to process each hair and, depending on the zone, the time may increase. The larger the area, the more time it will take – from 2 to 8, or even more hours.
During the procedure, the beautician inserts a needle pointwise near the root, after which he plucks dead hairs with his fingers or tweezers.
To make the procedure faster, it makes sense to shave off excess hairs in a couple of weeks and let them grow back a little. If the hair is too long, it will be more difficult to get to the roots.
How to care for skin after electrolysis
After the electrolysis procedure, the skin must be well moisturized, preventing it from drying out. And be sure to use sunscreen on exposed skin. For this, any moisturizing or nourishing creams, lotions or milk are suitable. We offer the following for your choice.
Lipid-restoring balm for face and body Lipikar Baume AP + M, La Roche-Posay
Soothes the skin, reduces the feeling of dryness and restores the lipid barrier. The Aqua Posae Filiformis component in the balm regulates the natural microflora of the skin.
Moisturizing lotion for dry and very dry skin of the face and body, CeraVe
It has a fairly light non-greasy texture, perfectly moisturizes, restores and strengthens the skin.
Moisturizing body milk with bifido complex and aloe vera, Garnier
The bifido complex in the milk optimizes the water balance of the skin and strengthens its natural protective barrier. Aloe moisturizes and soothes.
Spray that accelerates the restoration of the skin barrier, Cicaplast Spray B5, La Roche-Posay
Spray based on thermal water, panthenol and madecassoside restores the skin. It is appropriate to try it for care after electrolysis.
Body milk “Precious milk of beauty”, Garnier
How many sessions of electrolysis need to be performed
After a course of 7-8 procedures, growth usually does not resume, as the method destroys the hair follicles.
Summary results
What is electrolysis?
Epilation with electric current or electrolysis is one of the effective methods of getting rid of excess hairs on any part of the body. During the procedure, a high-frequency current or low voltage direct current is used. In essence, the bulb of each hair is removed in turn, and then the hair itself is removed.
Can everyone do electrolysis?
Unfortunately, not everyone. This method is not suitable in the following cases:
Viral, colds.
Hyperpigmentation.
The period of breastfeeding and pregnancy.
Any skin problems: dermatitis, cuts, wounds, eczema.
Herpes.
Diseases of the thyroid gland.
Diabetes.
Fungal diseases.
How is the electrolysis procedure performed?
At the base of the hair follicle, under the skin, a special needle is inserted, which plays the role of an electrode. The current acts on the hair root and destroys the hair follicle. As a result, the hair stops growing. For a stable 100% result, at least 7-10 sessions will be required.
