It lowers the level of cholesterol and triglycerides, and even the concentration of sugars in the blood. In addition, it reduces the appetite for sweets, making it much easier to follow the diet. CLA is probably the most popular ingredient in weight loss supplements. Does it really have such unique properties?
CLA is simply conjugated linoleic acid, which is one of the fatty acids. Over the years, it has been subjected to numerous studies that were to determine whether it really affects adipose tissue, and more precisely: its reduction, but unfortunately it was not possible to clearly determine it. According to a common hypothesis, its “slimming power” is based on blocking the action of the enzyme that allows triglycerides to penetrate into adipose tissue.
It is certain that CLA supports the use of fatty acids in the process of thermogenesis, i.e. it will be most effective in people who have regular physical exercise. So if we do sports, follow a diet and at the same time take supplements with linoleic acid, it will improve the entire slimming process.
What’s more, apart from using it in most slimming preparations, it also has other health-promoting properties. If you take CLA long enough and regularly, it strengthens your muscles. In addition, it has a positive effect on the immune system, mobilizing it to protect and fight against bacteria and viruses.
Its biggest disadvantage is certainly the lack of thorough research on its long-term effects on the human body. Despite this, so far no side effects have been reported in people taking linoleic acid.
To sum up, the advantages of CLA include:
- Increasing muscle mass,
- reduction of body fat,
- Lowering the level of triglycerides and cholesterol,
- improvement of well-being,
- Inhibition of fat penetration into body cells,
- Improvement of metabolism.
Before you start using…
Know that this acid also occurs in a natural form. We find it in beef and full-fat dairy products. However, a more recommended form, mainly due to attractive prices and the guarantee of better bioavailability, are pharmacy preparations. In addition to CLA itself, they are rich in other minerals, vitamins and boosters. The most common supplement of this type is green tea, known for its slimming properties.
Also remember that dietary supplements can also be overdosed. That’s why always read the leaflet and don’t use the rule “the more the better” – it won’t work in this case! Weight loss should be approached with a head and each booster should be used with the same caution as in the case of other drugs.
