Cipronex tablets is a synthetic chemotherapeutic agent, a substance with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. The active substance is ciprofloxacin, which works by destroying the bacteria that cause infections. It is used to treat various types of bacterial infections (e.g. respiratory, ear or sinus infections). Cipronex is in the form of tablets and works only on selected types of bacteria, it is available on prescription.

Action of Cipronex tablets
Cipronex is a synthetic chemotherapeutic agent that works by destroying the bacteria that is causing the infection. The active substance is ciprofloxacin.
Cipronex tablets – indications for use
Cipronex is intended for the treatment of various types of bacterial infections:
- lower respiratory tract infections caused by gram-negative bacteria (COPD exacerbations, bronchopulmonary infections in the course of cystic fibrosis or bronchiectasis),
- pneumonia,
- exacerbation of chronic sinusitis, especially those caused by gram-negative bacteria,
- chronic purulent otitis media,
- skin and soft tissue infections caused by gram-negative bacteria,
- malignant otitis externa,
- uncomplicated cystitis,
- complicated cystitis,
- uncomplicated pyelonephritis,
- prostatitis,
- gonococcal urethritis or cervical inflammation, preventing invasive infections caused by N. meningitidis.
- testicular and epididymitis (including those caused by N. gonorrhoeae), pelvic inflammatory disease.
POLARIES:
- diarrhea caused by pathogenic bacteria, incl Shigella spp. different than Shigella dysentery type 1, and empirical treatment of travelers’ diarrhea,
- diarrhea caused by Shigella dysentery type 1,
- diarrhea caused by Vibrio cholerae.
and:
- typhoid,
- intra-abdominal infections caused by gram-negative bacteria,
- bone and joint infections
- prophylaxis and treatment of infections in patients with neutropenia (in combination with other drugs). Pulmonary anthrax (preventing and treating infections after exposure)
- bronchopulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis caused by P. aeruginosa,
- complicated urinary tract infections and pyelonephritis,
- and other serious infections in children and adolescents.

Cipronex tablets – contraindications to taking the drug
Contraindications to taking Cipronex are:
- allergy to any ingredient of the preparation or other quinolones,
- the preparation should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as during treatment with tizanidine.
Dosage of Cipronex tablets
Cipronex tablets are intended for oral use and can be taken regardless of meals.
Do not serve with:
- dairy products,
- juices enriched with minerals.
Dosage in Adults:
Infection of the lower respiratory tract (caused by gram-negative bacteria, bronchopulmonary infection, pneumonia). Sinusitis, caused by gram-negative bacteria, purulent otitis media, infections of the skin and soft tissues (caused by gram-negative bacteria).
- adults. 500-750 mg 2 / day for 7-14 days.
Malignant otitis externa.
- adults. 750 mg 2 / day for 28 days-3 months
Uncomplicated cystitis.
- adults. 250-500 mg 2 / day for 3 days. In premenopausal women, 500 mg can be used as a single dose.
Complicated cystitis, uncomplicated pyelonephritis.
- adults. 500 mg 2 / day for 7 days.
Complicated pyelonephritis.
- adults. 500-750 mg 2 / day for at least 10 days, in some cases (e.g. abscesses) treatment may be continued for more than 21 days.
Inflammation of the prostate gland.
- adults. 500-750 mg twice / day for 2-2 weeks (acute inflammation) or 4-4 weeks (chronic inflammation).
Gonococcal urethritis or cervical inflammation, prevention of invasive infections caused by N. meningitidis.
- adults. 500 mg once.
Inflammation of the testicle and epididymis (including caused by N. gonorrhoeae), pelvic inflammatory disease.
- adults. 500-750 mg twice / day for at least 2 days.
Diarrhea caused by pathogenic bacteria, incl Shigella spp. different than Shigella dysentery type 1, and empirical treatment of travelers’ diarrhea.
- Adults. 500 mg twice / day for 2 day.
Diarrhea caused by Shigella dysentery type 1.
- Adults. 500 mg twice / day for 2 days.
Diarrhea caused by Vibrio cholerae.
- Adults. 500 mg twice / day for 2 days.
Typhoid.
- Adults. 500 mg twice / day for 2 days.
Intra-abdominal infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria.
- Adults. 500-750 mg twice / day for 2-5 days.
Infections of the bones and joints.
- Adults. 500-750 mg twice / day for a maximum of 2 months.
Prevention and treatment of infections in patients with neutropenia (in combination with other drugs).
- Adults. 500-750 mg twice / day; treatment should be continued throughout the course of neutropenia.
Pulmonary anthrax (preventing and treating infections after exposure).
- Adults. 500 mg twice / day. Children and youth. 2-10 mg / kg body weight twice / day, a maximum of 15 mg twice / day. Continue treatment for 2 days after exposure.
Children and youth:
Broncho-pulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis caused by P. aeruginosa.
- Children and youth. 20 mg / kg body weight twice / day, max. 2 mg twice / day for 750-2 days.
Complicated urinary tract infections and pyelonephritis.
- Children and youth. 10-20 mg / kg body weight twice / day, max. 2 mg twice / day for 750-2 days.
Other severe infections in children and adolescents.
- 20 mg / kg body weight twice / day, max. 2 mg twice / day. The duration of treatment depends on the type of infection.

Cipronex tablets – caution
When should you take caution when taking Ciproxin tablets?
- in people who have had or have kidney disease (a change in the dose of the preparation may be indicated),
- in patients suffering from epilepsy or other neurological disorders,
- caution should be exercised in people who have a history of tendon problems during treatment with Cipronex antibiotics.,
- in patients struggling with muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis),
- patients who have had problems with arrhythmia in the past should be careful,
- in patients with congenital or a family history of prolongation of the QT interval (seen on ECG)
- people struggling with bradycardia (slow heart rate) should exercise caution,
- caution should be exercised in patients with heart failure and after myocardial infarction,
- elderly patients and women should exercise caution,
- caution should be exercised by those taking medications that may alter the electrocardiogram.
