Ciprofloxacin Kabi is a medicine that comes in the form of solutions for infusion. The main ingredient of the preparation is ciprofloxacin in the form of hydrogen sulphate. The drug is used against many infections caused by various forms of microorganisms that develop in different parts of the human body.

Composition of Ciprofloxacin Kabi

Ciprofloxacin Kabi is composed of the active substance – ciprofloxacin, which has a unique bactericidal effect. Ciprofloxacin interferes with bacterial DNA replication, thus inhibiting the synthesis of genetic chains. The excipients of the preparation include: sodium chloride, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide and water for injections.

When is Ciprofloxacin Kabi used?

There are many reasons for taking Ciprofloxacin Kabi. In the case of adults, the preparation is used in the following cases:

  1. infections developing in the lower respiratory tract, which were caused by the so-called gram-negative bacteria,
  2. exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,
  3. bronchopulmonary infections associated with the course of cystic fibrosis or bronchiectasis,
  4. pneumonia
  5. purulent inflammation of the middle ear,
  6. acute sinus inflammation,
  7. urinary tract infections, including inflammation of the testicles and epididymis,
  8. gastrointestinal infections (so-called traveler’s diarrhea),
  9. organ infections in the abdomen,
  10. skin and soft tissue infections (caused by gram-negative bacteria),
  11. malignant inflammation of the outer ear,
  12. joint and bone infections,
  13. any other infections in patients with neutropenia
  14. as a preventive measure: to avoid infection in patients with neutropenia,
  15. pulmonary anthrax disease.

In the case of children and adolescents under 18 years of age, Ciprofloxacin Kabi is mainly used in the following situations:

  1. lung and bronchial infections associated with the course of cystic fibrosis (caused by the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa),
  2. urinary tract infections with complications,
  3. pyelonephritis,
  4. pulmonary anthrax disease.

Moreover, as soon as the doctor considers this form of treatment to be effective, he can use Ciprofloxacin Kabi to treat various types of serious infections in young people.

How do you take Ciprofloxacin Kabi?

The dosage and duration of treatment with Ciprofloxacinen Kabi depends on the indication, site of infection, sensitivity of microorganisms present in the patient’s organism to the effects of ciprofloxacin, renal function, patient’s weight (in the case of children and adolescents), the severity of the disease and its course.

The usual initial treatment is Ciprofloxacin Kabi injection, which over time is changed into tablets or a suspension intended for oral administration. Below we present indicative doses most often used in the treatment of adults.

In case of infection:

  1. lower respiratory tract – 400 mg of Ciprofloxacin Kabi is taken, 2-3 times a day, for a period of 1-2 weeks,
  2. upper respiratory tract – 400 mg of Ciprofloxacin Kabi is taken, 2-3 times a day, for a period of 1-2 weeks,
  3. of the urinary system – 400 mg of Ciprofloxacin Kabi is taken, 2-3 times a day, for a period of 2-4 weeks,
  4. genital organs – 400 mg of Ciprofloxacin Kabi is taken, 2-3 times a day, for a period of at least 2 weeks,
  5. digestive system and abdominal cavity – 400 mg of Ciprofloxacin Kabi is taken, 2 times a day, for a period of 1-14 days,
  6. skin and soft tissues – 400 mg Ciprofloxacin Kabi, 2-3 times a day, for 1-2 weeks,
  7. bone and joint infections – 400 mg Ciprofloxacin Kabi, 2-3 times a day, for up to 3 months.

Precautions while taking Ciprofloxacin Kabi

The following groups of people are excluded from the use of Ciprofloxacin Kabi:

  1. people who are allergic or hypersensitive to any of the ingredients of the preparation,
  2. people taking tizanidines concurrently.

According to the conducted studies, Ciprofloxacin Kabi does not cause any negative effects on the health or development of the fetus or the breastfed newborn. For this reason, in justified cases, the use of Ciprofloxacin Kabi by pregnant and breastfeeding women is allowed. Due to the neurological effect of the preparation, they may affect the patient’s reaction time. Therefore, you should not drive or operate complex machinery or equipment while taking Ciprofloxacin Kabi.

The most common side effects caused by taking Ciprofloxacin Kabi include: fungal superinfections, colitis, eosinophilia, leukopenia, anemia, neutropenia, leukocytosis, thrombocytosis, allergic skin reactions, anaphylactic shock, anorexia, excessive psychomotor activity, agitation and discomfort, pain and dizziness, visual disturbances, heart problems, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, increased liver activity, pain in muscles and joints.
