In the composition of a very popular spice – cinnamon, scientists have found a substance toxic to the liver and to human health. Its name is coumarin. Inexpensive Indonesian cinnamon is especially rich in it.
If ingested, it can pose a risk of damage to liver cells. People who are sensitive to coumarin are especially susceptible to its influence. Therefore, scientists advise against buying cheap cassia cinnamon, the supplier of which is Indonesia and China. It can contain 20-60 times more coumarin than expensive varieties of the product. These doctors include Ceylon cinnamon, produced on the island of Madagascar, the Seychelles and Sri Lanka.
