We finally waited for the January holidays, but what can the two of us do if the borders are closed and the work of cafes and restaurants is limited? Of course, watch a good movie! Don’t forget to make popcorn and turn off your phones.
A great idea to spend a long weekend is to watch an interesting movie, hugging yourself with pillows and drinking your favorite wine or mulled wine, and at the same time eating everything that was prepared for the holiday. We have made a selection of films that will help pass the evenings on the couch.
“Gentlemen”
Directed by: Guy Ritchie
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell
Guy Ritchie managed to make a universal movie that can be watched together. This is killer humor, shootouts, cool boys’ showdowns, great scenes of fights and chases, the spirit of adventurism. And dazzling and sexy actors, who, among other things, are dressed in incredible costumes.
In addition, there is love, unexpected plot twists and a sudden ending. If you didn’t have time to watch it, drop everything and enjoy. If you have time, then you can review it – for the sake of dialogues and Colin Farrell’s costume.
“200 Cigarettes”
Directed by: Risa Bramon Garcia
Cast: Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Christina Ritchie
This film is romance in its purest form, smart, subtle and very beautiful. One can feel nostalgic about the pre-docian times, when it was still possible to fly to London or New York on New Year’s Eve and plunge into the magical atmosphere of Christmas.
The film tells about the New Year’s party, which is going to young people. Everyone has their own secret in their bosom. So, for example, Lucy realizes that her best friend Kevin is more than a friend to her. But how can he confess? Two girlfriends from another city cannot find the right address, get lost in the alleys, but fate gives them a gift – a meeting that will be the beginning of a new story.
While the guests, like Theseus, wander through the maze of streets, the hostess of the party, Monica, runs between the kitchen and the clock, not understanding what is happening and where is everyone? In the end, the party was a success—for the guests, but not for her. This also happens, and you should not be upset if everything went wrong and the plan failed. If something like this happened to you, look and take comfort in the fact that you are not alone.
“One more”
Directed by: Thomas Vinterberg
Cast: Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang
A film in which light and darkness are combined in the right proportions, as in life.
The action takes place in Denmark and spans a year of the characters’ lives. The main characters are four friends-teachers, tortured by everyday life. One is exhausted by fatherhood with many children, the other by failures in his personal life, the third is experiencing the collapse of his long marriage, the fourth still cannot survive the departure of his wife.
But everything changes when one of them tells the others about the scientific assumption of the scientist and psychotherapist Finn Skarderud. This pundit put forward a hypothesis that people lack 0.5 ppm of alcohol (about 2 glasses of wine) in their blood to be always happy. Friends decided that the theory was worth testing in practice, they set up an experiment on themselves … And then, as they say, everything started spinning.
An excellent film to stay awake on New Year’s holidays, especially if you are planning an alcohol marathon.
The Land of Oz
Director: Vasily Sigarev
Cast: Yana Troyanova, Gosha Kutsenko, Evgeny Tsyganov, Inna Churikova
In Russia, as you know, the New Year and the long holidays after are a storm and madness. Everyone at least once in their life spent this time in such a way that it is still funny and scary to remember. Especially in the regions.
The main character Lenka Shabadinova hurries through Yekaterinburg and the Russian nightlife to a new place of work – to a kiosk somewhere in the outskirts of the city. A shift waiter is waiting there, who has been sitting inside the kiosk for the third day already and writing a novel about his life.
But Lenka’s path is long, winding and full of obstacles in the face of lonely men who have no one to drink with and no one to celebrate the New Year with. They all cling to Lenka as if they were their salvation, and Lenka generally ceases to understand what is happening … The film is both funny and scary at the same time.
“Elf”
Director: Jon Favreau
Cast: Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel
The film “Elf” warns that one must dream carefully. All children want to see Santa Claus and rummage through his magical gift bag. A boy named Buddy succeeded, but only he himself ended up in a bag and went with Santa to the North Pole to live among the elves and help the old man.
In reality, this turned out to be not such an enviable fate, especially when Buddy grew up and realized that all the elves were up to his waist and that he did not have any personal life … What should I do? Look for your place in life, but where it is warmer.
