Believers respect each of the Orthodox holidays, pay great attention to the traditions and features of their celebration. 1 August

Uncovering the relics of the miracle worker Seraphim of Sarov

According to church history, for his labors he received from God the gift of miracles, foresight and healing. At the request of Emperor Nicholas II of Our Country, the Orthodox Church elevated Seraphim of Sarov to the rank of reverend. The holy relics are in the Seraphim-Diveevo Monastery.

Memorial Day of St. Macrina of Cappadocia

At birth, the girl was named Thekla, and her relatives called her Makrina – in honor of the Christian grandmother. Early widowed, she took the veil as a nun. She lived in a nunnery with her mother, where she remained until her death.  

Memorial Day of the Blessed Prince Roman of Ryazan 

The prince was famous for his unceasing concern for his subjects. According to beliefs, he zealously defended his people from tax collectors who did not hesitate to rob people and inflict violence. Prince Roman refused to betray his faith, for which he was subjected to excruciating torture. 

Memorial Day of St. Paisius of the Caves

Monk of the Kiev Caves Monastery. Lived in the 10th century. The saint is also venerated on September XNUMX, at the Cathedral of the Kiev-Pechersk Saints in the Far Caves, and at the Cathedral of All the Kiev-Pechersk Saints.

Memorial Day of Blessed Stefan Lazarevich the New and Princess Milica, Serbian

Stephen headed the state after the death of his father, Prince Lazar of Serbia. He continued the righteous work of his ancestor, spending money from the treasury on the construction of cities, temples and helping those in need. Princess Milica, after the death of her husband, took the veil as a nun and helped her son rule.

Memorial Day of the Monk Abbot Diy of Constantinople

Born at the end of the XNUMXth century in a family of pious Christians. He was distinguished by humility, abstinence from worldly joys. He prayed unceasingly, for which he received from God the gift of a miracle worker. 

2 August

Memorial Day of the Prophet Elijah the Fesvitian (Ilyin’s Day)

Saint Elijah devoted his life to a mission – to strengthen the faith of the people in the true God and to preach the laws of Orthodoxy. This church holiday is very revered among the Orthodox people. 

According to ancient signs, from this day autumn begins to come into its own: it becomes colder, water bodies cool down. On Ilyin’s day, they try not to take on hard work, so as not to bring trouble on themselves and loved ones. 

Memorial Day of the Reverend Abbot Avramy of Galich, Chukhlomsky

The Monk Abraham, according to legend, always sought solitude and strove for silence, worked, glorifying God. The monasteries and temples he built in Galich were dedicated to the Mother of God. 

Uncovering the relics of Abbot Athanasius of Brest

In 1627, Athanasius became a monk, and later received the appointment of hegumen of the Brest Monastery. The MonkMartyr Athanasius of Brest fought relentlessly for the rights of the Orthodox brotherhood. By refusing to renounce his faith, he doomed himself to a painful death. 

Memorial Day of the hieromartyr Konstantin Slovtsov

Konstantin Slovtsov graduated from the Tobolsk Theological Seminary, and later received the priesthood. Lived in the Urals. He was a deeply spiritual person, distinguished by courage and greatness of spirit. Participated in the uprising against the Bolsheviks. He suffered for his faith: during the change of power in the country, the priest was arrested and then executed. 

Memorial Day Hieromartyrs Hieromonks Kirill Vyaznikov, Georgy Pozharov, Martyrs Peter Vyaznikov and Evfimy Grebenshchikov

victims of political intrigue. In 1930, others were under investigation, along with them: the Monk Martyr Tikhon Krechkov, priests John Steblin-Kamensky, Sergei Gortinsky, Feodor Yakovlev, as well as Georgy Nikitin and Alexander Arkhangelsky. At the end of July, they were sentenced, and on the evening of August 2 they were shot near Voronezh.

Celebration of the Icon of the Mother of God of Galich (Chukhloma)

The icon of the Mother of God “Tenderness” is considered miraculous. Church tradition says that she appeared to the Galich wonderworker Abraham when he prayed to the Mother of God for a blessing on his deeds. The icon is also celebrated on June 10 and August 28.

Celebration of the Icon of the Mother of God “The Sign” of Abalak

Written by the protodeacon of the cathedral Matthias. Near this icon they pray for bedridden patients and people with eye diseases, it is believed that it can help with paralysis. 

Celebration of the Icon of the Mother of God of Orsha

The Orsha icon of the Mother of God is a shrine that has appeared to people, reflecting the essence of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, the meaning of the birth of Jesus and his great mission. According to the official version, the shrine appeared at the laying of the Holy Epiphany Monastery and is its patroness. 

3 August   

Memorial Day of the Prophet Ezekiel

The prophet Ezekiel lived until the birth of Christ. Known for seeing the future of the Jewish people in his visions. In Christianity, one of the four “great prophets”.

Day of memory of holy fool Simeon and his companion John

Simeon and John were spiritual brothers and true friends. At some point in my life I decided to dedicate myself to God. Simeon, under the guise of a holy fool, helped people without demanding any gratitude in return. 

4 August

Memorial Day of Mary Magdalene, Equal-to-the-Apostles Myrrhbearer 

It is believed that Mary Magdalene led a dissolute life until the Lord healed her. She was one of the first to see the resurrection of Jesus Christ and relentlessly followed him, she was also present at the Crucifixion. 

Memorial Day of St. Cornelius Pereyaslavsky

He dedicated his life to worship. He lived as a recluse, depriving himself of all benefits. He worked hard and helped the brethren.

Transfer of the relics of Hieromartyr Bishop Phocas of Sinop

Phocas of Sinop converted many pagans to the Orthodox faith. During the attacks on the Christian people, they were forced to renounce God and faith. Refusing to give up his principles, he was martyred. His relics were transferred to Constantinople in 404. 

Memorial Day of Presbyter, Hieromartyr Mikhail Nakaryakov

Michael was known among the people as a merciful and disinterested priest. He taught the Law of God in the church school. He was devoted to his work, for which he is revered by the Orthodox today. 

5 August

Celebration of the Icon of the Mother of God of Pochaev

The miraculous icon of the Mother of God was handed over to the Pochaev Monastery by the noblewoman Anna Goiskaya after the icon helped her brother recover. There is evidence of light coming from the icon.

Memorial Day of the Martyrs Trofim, Theophilus and with them the thirteen holy martyrs 

All the saints suffered during the persecution of Christians. They professed Orthodoxy until their last breath, for which they were tortured before their death.

Memorial Day of the Warrior Feodor Ushakov

Fedor Fedorovich is known to a wide circle as a famous admiral of the fleet. In his youth, he went to serve in the capital’s guards, but during the period of service he realized that his soul aspired to spiritual service. By the will of the Empress, he was left in the Alexander Nevsky Monastery, where he received monastic vows. 

Memorial Day of the Hieromartyr Bishop Apollinaris of Ravenna 

Apollinaris had the ability to heal people, and, according to popular beliefs, more than once showed a miracle to the people. He founded a small church, where he constantly prayed and converted the equals to the Christian faith. 

Celebration of the Icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow”

The icon became famous for the fact that during a lightning strike in the chapel, only it remained intact. Since then, they began to come to her for healing. 

6 August

Memorial Day of the Blessed Princes Boris and Gleb 

The brothers were the first saints to be canonized in the Church. All the saints who came before them were canonized later. Church history says that the brothers were distinguished by mercy and compassion. According to the official version, they were killed by their elder brother Svyatopolk Vladimirovich.

Memorial Day of the Martyr Christina of Tire

Born in the family of the ruler. The pagan father wanted to make her a priestess and demanded to worship idols. But Christina was drawn to God, for which she was tortured more than once by both her father and the following rulers. Each time she was miraculously healed, because of which many of her entourage believed in God’s power. 

Memorial Day of the Reverend Archimandrite Polycarp of the Caves

He was abbot of the Pechersk monastery. Known for writing about the life of the saints of the Caves. 

Memorial Day of St. George of Mogilevsky

After graduating from the academy, Georgy Mogilevsky took monastic vows. He was a lecturer in the department of rhetoric. All his life he was dedicated to maintaining a high level of the clergy. 

7 August  

Dormition of Righteous Anna, Mother of the Most Holy Theotokos

In adulthood, after many years of prayers to God, Anna and her husband had a girl, who was named Mary. Before that, an angel announced to them about the birth of a daughter who would be blessed by all mankind. 

Canon to the holy wives Olympias of Constantinople and St. Eupraxia of Constantinople, Tavenna 

Saint Eupraxia chose serving the Lord as her life goal. She remained in the monastery from the age of seven, refusing earthly goods. She generously distributed her inherited wealth to those in need, and also provided assistance to churches and monasteries. 

Olympias was born into a noble family, later she believed in God. She endured much suffering and died in captivity for her devotion to John Chrysostom.

Memorial Day of St. Macarius Zheltovodsky, Unzhensky

In his youth, he left his parents and became a monk of the Nizhny Novgorod Caves monastery. He did not give himself any indulgences, having renounced secular joys, and with all his fervor he devoted himself to God’s service. 

Day of the Cathedral of the Smolensk Saints

This Orthodox holiday was added to the church calendar for August in 1986. It is considered rolling and is celebrated on the Sunday before August 10th. In 2022, it falls on August 7th. 

8 August  

Memorial Day of Hieromartyrs Hermipp, Yermolai and Hermocrates, presbyters

Survived after the mass burning of Christians at the behest of Emperor Maximilian in 303. In that tragedy, 20 believers died. 

The presbyters began to hide from power, but even during this period they converted many pagans to the Christian faith.

Memorial Day of St. Moses Ugrin, Caves

Monk of the Kiev Caves Monastery. He was tortured for his faith. After death, touching the holy relics of St. Moses and fervent prayers helped the Caves monks to resist carnal temptations.

In memory of the venerable martyr Paraskeva of Rome

Paraskeva devoted herself to serving God at a very young age. She gave away her possessions to the poor. After she accepted monasticism, she preached the Christian faith to the pagans.

In memory of Hieromartyr Presbyter Sergius Strelnikov

He devoted his whole life to educational activities. He taught the Law of God in zemstvo schools, was a member of the Missionary Society, was in the Brotherhood of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which was formed in the Vyatka diocese.

9 August 

Memorial Day of the Healer, Great Martyr Panteleimon

Born into a pagan family. He became popular among the people as a good doctor. It is believed that Panteleimon had the gift of healing and helped people heal with his prayers. We revere him as a healer and patron of warriors. He died a painful death. 

Remembrance Day of Reverend Herman of Alaska

He entered the monastic path at the age of 16. From adolescence he sought solitude, preached the gospel. He converted to his faith, successfully conveying to the pagans the essence of Christianity. 

Memorial Day of Blessed Nikolai Kochanov, Novgorodsky, Christ for the Holy Fool

He chose the life of a holy fool, for which he often suffered beatings. According to legend, he was awarded God’s gift of wonderworking and clairvoyance. 

Memorial Day of St. Metropolitan Joasaph of Moscow

He was abbot at the Sergius Lavra. He baptized the future Ivan the Terrible. 

Memorial Day of the Monk Abbess Anfisa of Mantinea

Emperor Capronymus forced Saint Anfisa of Mantinea to renounce her faith and refuse to venerate holy icons. But she refused. After the Monk Anfisa predicted the birth of a son and daughter to the king’s wife, she was released back to the monastery, where she lived to a ripe old age.

Memorial Day of Equal-to-the-Apostles Archbishop Clement of Ohrid 

He was a student of Saints Methodius and Cyril. Helped in the education of the Slavic people. 

Memorial Day of Hieromartyr Ambrose (Gudko)

After graduating from the theological academy, he was tonsured a monk with the name Ambrose. For the appearance of the provincial administration, he had serious disagreements with the secular authorities.

10 August

Celebration of the icon of the Mother of God “Hodegetria” of Smolensk

“Hodegetria” means “Guide”. The icon was painted by the Evangelist Luke during the life of the Mother of God. 

Memorial Day of the Apostles from 70 Bishops Prokhor and Timon, Deacons Nicanor and Parmen

According to Scripture, 12 apostles chose these men, full of wisdom and spirit, to serve as deacons, and with them three more. 

Memorial Day of St. Pitirim, Bishop of Tambov

It is believed that he was destined for the path of spiritual service from a young age. The boy was completely devoted to God, had the talent of an artist, painted icons. He was tonsured a monk and received the name Pitirim. 

11 August    

Nativity of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra of Lycia 

Archbishop Nicholas became the personification of all the virtues raised to heavenly heights. Believers commemorate the saint several times a year: in addition to his birthday, on the day of death – December 19, on the day of the transfer of relics – May 22.

Memorial Day of the Martyr Kallinikos of Cilicia

From childhood, being brought up in the Christian faith, despite anti-church persecution, he preached the Word of God. Once he was seized and for refusing to renounce Christ he was subjected to the most severe tortures. Looking into the face of death, he himself climbed the fire. 

Memorial Day of St. Constantine and his Companion Cosmas

The Monk Constantine was the rector of the monastery named after St. Nicholas. And the Monk Cosmas continued the work of a mentor after his death. They were buried in the same grave.  

Memorial Day of the Monk Martyr Seraphim of Bogoslovsky and Hieromonk Feognost Pivovarov

They served at the Holy Trinity Monastery. Father Seraphim had an icon-painting talent and a beautiful singing voice. After the Bolsheviks came to power, the monks went to the mountains and set up a hermitage there on the Mokhnata Hill. 

12 August  

Memorial Day of the Apostles from the 70th Power, Silouan, Epenet Kriskent and Andronicus

They preached the Word of God, being bishops of various monasteries.

Memorial Day of the Martyr John the Warrior

He patronized all the offended. Being a soldier sent to kill Christians, he secretly helped them, freeing some of those caught, warning others about the impending raid, helping them to escape. 

Memorial Day of St. Anatoly II of Optina (Potapov)

Having taken monastic vows, he became the successor of the senile spiritual work. Ordinary people turned to him with their troubles and problems. In church traditions they write that he found a special word for anyone and tried to help everyone. The people called him “the second Seraphim.” 

Uncovering the relics of St. Herman of Solovetsky

Herman spent half a year on the deserted Solovetsky Island with the ascetic Savvaty. He worked unceasingly, prayed and fasted. Later, having met the hermit Zosima, they founded a cenobitic monastery. The uncovering of the holy relics of St. Herman of Solovetsky took place in the Church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos.

Memorial Day of Hieromartyr John Plotnikov

It is believed that he faithfully served God, not renouncing this service even during the period when the Bolsheviks came to power.  

13 August

Prefeast of the Presentation of the Precious Trees of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord

The day before a big holiday, the service of which includes prayers in honor of the upcoming celebrated event.

Memorial Day of the Righteous Evdokim the Cappadocian 

The life of this saint was dedicated to God and helping others. 

Windy weather on this day is popularly believed to herald a snowy winter.

Memorial Day of the Martyr Julitta of Caesarea (Cappadocia)

After refusing to renounce Christianity, the woman was burned at the stake. Only 70 years after her death, Saint Basil the Great dedicated a commendable word to the martyr Julitta. 

Memorial Day of St. Herman, Bishop of Auxerre

Born in Auxerre in a Christian family. He became famous for not considering it shameful to take care of the poor himself and give them food. He built churches and monasteries, and also achieved tax cuts for the inhabitants of Armorica (now – the territory of France). 

Memorial Day of Hieromartyr Metropolitan Veniamin of Petrograd, Martyr Archimandrite Sergius of Petrograd, Martyrs Yuri and John of Petrograd

In 1922 they were court martialed and sentenced to death. On July 5, 1922, they were shot near Petrograd. Until the last breath, they were faithful to the Word of God.

14 August

Beginning of Dormition Fast

Pre-holiday fast – before the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos. The Dormition fast always begins a month after Peter’s fast.

Feast of the All-Merciful Savior and the Most Holy Theotokos (Honey Spas)

This church holiday was established by the prince Andrei Bogolyubsky. During the battles with the Bulgars, the army carried in front the icon of the Mother of God and the Holy Cross of Christ. According to the stories, during the battle, a bright light emanated from the icon and the Cross. The army won, and this holiday appeared in memory of the incredible miracle. 

In the people, he is better known as the Honey Savior. It is believed that it is on this day that honey can be harvested, since it is already fully ripe. People illuminate honey in church to enhance its healing properties and protect the family from disease.

The Exposition of the Honest Trees of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord

In the church calendar, this August holiday is combined with the remembrance of the Baptism of Our Country in 988. 

Memorial Day of the Seven Martyrs of Maccabees, their mother the martyr Solomon and their teacher Eleazar

All of them were subjected to terrible torments in turn, but courageously accepted their death, not renouncing God and his teachings. 

Memorial Day of the Hieromartyr Presbyter Demetrius of Pavsky

Born into a hereditary family of priests. He enjoyed great love, authority and respect among believers. In 1937, Dmitry Pavsky was arrested and, after interrogation, shot.

15 August 

Transfer of the relics of the First Martyr Apostle from the 70s Stephen, Archdeacon and acquisition of the relics of the righteous Nicodemus, Gamaliel and his son Aviv

Saint Stephen can be considered the first martyr who suffered in the name of Christ. After his death, his tormented body was secretly taken by the Jewish teacher Gamaliel and his son Aviv and buried in their estate. Nicodemus, a secret disciple of Jesus Christ, was later buried in the same place. After the death of Gamaliel and Aviv, they were also buried next to these saints. 

Memorial Day of Blessed Basil of Moscow, Wonderworker, Christ for the Holy Fool

Vasily was born at the Epiphany Cathedral, his mother prayed incessantly, and he himself was immersed in faith from childhood. 

Among the people he was considered a holy fool, he was known as a denouncer of untruth. It is believed that he had the gift of foresight. 

Day of celebration in honor of the icon of the Mother of God of Achair

The icon was painted with the blessing of the metropolitan Theodosius. A distinctive feature of the icon is the Omsk New Martyrs depicted on its margins. 

16 August

Memorial Day of St. Anthony the Roman, Wonderworker of Novgorod

Lived in piety. He founded a monastery dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It still exists today. The relics of the monk until the thirties of our century were in the church of this monastery.  

Memorial Day of Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, Saint Dalmat and his son Faust

They were abbots of the Dalmatian monastery. Together they followed the teachings of God and sacredly honored his laws. Before his death, the Monk Isaac left Dalmat as Abbot in his place. In honor of him, the monastery began to be called Dalmatian. And after the death of the Monk Dalmat, this place was taken by his son Faustus. 

Memorial Day of the Monk Hermit Cosmas 

Lived in Palestine. He was a strict faster, a firm follower of the Orthodox faith, deeply knowing the Holy Scriptures. According to church history, he knew how to heal people.

17 August 

Memorial Day of the Seven Youths, Saints Maximilian, Iamblichus, Martinian, John, Dionysius, Exacustodian (Constantine) and Antoninus

The seven Ephesian youths were friends during their lifetime. Together they decided to go to military service. For refusing to renounce Christianity, they were immured in a cave. However, Jesus Christ delivered them from martyrdom: according to legend, he brought a long sleep to the martyrs, which lasted about two centuries.

Uncovering the relics of Righteous Presbyter Alexy Gnevushev, Bortsurmansky 

Alexy Gnevushev was born in the family of a priest. In his native village Bortsurmany he was appointed deacon. Later he became the pastor of this church, which he did not leave until his death. Alexy Bortsurmansky was canonized as a saint in 2000. 

Celebration of the Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan (Penza)

Penza received the icon as a gift at the time of the founding of the city. It is believed that Penza owes its salvation from enemies to the miraculous icon. 

18 August    

Prefeast of the Transfiguration of the Lord

The holiday is associated with the spiritual transformation of a person. The prayers of this event call on believers to become better in order to be worthy to climb Mount Tabor and see the glory of the Transfiguration. 

Memorial Day of the Martyr Eusignius of Antioch

Eusignius was in military service for a long time. According to legend, he saw a starry cross in the sky, which foreshadowed victory for Emperor Constantine the Great. The old age of the martyr passed in prayers and visits to the temples of God.

Memorial Day of Hieromartyr Presbyter Stefan Khitrov 

Stefan Khitrov was born in the family of a priest. He devoted his life to the priesthood. He called on the people to join the ranks of the White Army, on the side of which his son Nikolai fought.

19 August 

Transfiguration of the Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ (Apple Spas)

The scriptures tell how Jesus, along with his faithful disciples, ascends Mount Tabor to pray. At this moment, he is transformed in front of them: his face shines, and his clothes become snow-white. Before him are two Old Testament righteous: Elijah and Moses, to tell about the upcoming events. 

This day is popularly known as Apple Spas. It is supposed to make preparations from apples for the winter, to cook apple jam. Also, believers are trying on this day to be transformed internally, to purify their thoughts, to change their lives for the better.

Memorial Day of Hieromartyr Presbyter Nikolai Zavarin

In 1926, in difficult times for the Church, he was appointed a priest and appointed to serve in the Vladimir Church in the village of Piksur. After his arrest in 1937, he was sentenced to death. 

20 August

Afterfeast of the Transfiguration of the Lord

This solemn event in the church calendar of Orthodox holidays has one day of prefeast and seven days of afterfeast.

Memorial Day of the Martyr Dometius the Persian and two of his disciples 

As a youth, Dometius converted to the Christian faith. Leaving Persia, he was baptized and became a monk of one of the monasteries. Considering himself unworthy to become a presbyter, he found solitude in the mountains of Syria, and later settled in a cave with his disciples. Despite his desire to hide from the world, people always came to him for healing and help. 

Uncovering the relics of St. Mitrofan (in schema Macarius), Bishop of Voronezh

Saint Mitrofan lived in the world with his wife and two children. Later he became a monk of the Zolotnikovsky Dormition Monastery. He was distinguished by deep humility and diligence. 

Memorial Day of the Monk Mercury of the Caves, Bishop of Smolensk

He was a monk of the Kiev Caves Monastery. After his death, his relics were buried in the Near Caves near Kyiv. 

Memorial Day of St. Pimen the Painful, Caves 

The Monk Pimen was born seriously ill. His parents asked the Lord to heal their son, but Pimen himself, realizing the high value of suffering, prayed for the prolongation of his illness. His relics are in the Antoniev cave.

Memorial Day of the Hieromartyr Prestiver Alexander Khotovichsky 

His parents instilled in him love for the Orthodox Church and the people of God. Among Christians, he became famous for his good deeds. Thanks to him, Orthodox parishes were created.

21 August 

Commemoration of the Confessor Bishop Emilian of Kizicheski 

He endured many sufferings. Refusing to betray the Orthodox faith, he died in captivity, adorned with the crown of a confessor. 

Transfer of the relics of Saints Zosima and Savvaty of Solovetsky

The saints were canonized in 1547. And later their relics were transferred with full honors to the Transfiguration Cathedral.

Celebration of the memory of the Cathedral of Valaam Saints

It has a rolling date and falls on the first Sunday after 19 August.

22 August

Memorial Day of the Apostle Matthias

Little Matthias studied the Law of God from childhood. Having believed in the Lord, he relentlessly followed him. Matthias was chosen among the 70 disciples, and after the Ascension of the Lord he was among the 12 apostles (instead of Judas).  

Memorial Day of St. Philaret Gumilevsky, Archbishop of Chernigov

He was distinguished by extraordinary diligence and efficiency. For his small stature, he received the surname Gumilevsky. Under his leadership, parishes were opened and churches were built. 

In memory of the martyr Anthony of Alexandria

Lived in Alexandria. For confessing the Christian faith, he was tortured for a long time, and then sentenced to be burned. 

23 August

Memorial Day of Hieromartyrs Archdeacon Lawrence, Deacons Sixtus II, Pope Felikissimus and Agapit, Martyrs Roman, Roman, Blessed Lawrence of Kaluga 

They lived during the reign of Emperor Valerian. All of them were tortured for the Christian faith and their refusal to renounce it even in the face of fear of death. 

Cathedral of the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Solovetsky

The Solovetsky Islands during the years of repression became a place of oppression for millions of innocently convicted. The holiday was established in 2000 on the day of memory of all those who served their sentences in the Solovetsky Special Purpose Camp.

Holy Martyr Vyacheslav Zakedsky Memorial Day

Born into a family of a priest, he followed in his father’s footsteps, serving in various churches and parishes. During the February Revolution, he was transferred to a church attached to a prison in the city of Rybinsk. There he died from severe wounds at the time of the Yaroslavl uprising.

Memorial Day of the Hieromartyr Archdeacon Euplas of Catania (Sicilian) 

He never parted with the Gospel and openly preached Christianity to the pagans. He was caught and tortured to death. 

Memorial Day of the Martyrs Theodore and Basil of the Caves

Prince Mstislav Svyatopolkovich, having learned that Saints Theodore and Basil had found treasures in the caves, and unable to find out from them information about the location of the treasure, subjected the saints to torment and executed them.

He became famous for the construction of churches, defended the Orthodox faith from the violence of papism. 

Commemoration of the martyr Sosanna of Rome, and with her Gaius, Pope of Rome, presbyter, martyrs Claudius, Maximus, Alexander and Kufi, martyr Prepedigny

Those listed were relatives. With the whole family they accepted Baptism, for which they went into exile by the emperor. At various times, the Saints were martyred, having suffered for their faith.

Being a holy fool, he lived very poorly, selling coal in the city. Later, St. Gregory of Neokisaria appointed him a bishop for the purity of his soul and heart. During the reign of Emperor Diocletian, he refused to worship pagan idols, for which he was tortured and executed. 

Memory Day of the martyrs of Pamphyl and Captain

These saints lived in the XNUMXrd century. Little is known about their lives. Like many other Christians of that time, they were subjected to violent death: their heads were cut off.

Lived during the raids of the Tatars. Not only the common people, but also the nobility were afraid of his words. After the death of Maxim of Moscow, according to legends, miracles of healing could be observed at his relics.

Repose, second finding of the relics of St. Tikhon, wonderworker of Zadonsk, Bishop of Voronezh 

Bishop Tikhon of the Voronezh diocese was said to have the gift of divination and miracles. He foresaw many events connected with the reign of Emperor Alexander I.

Memorial Day of the Martyrs Hippolytus, Irenaeus, Avundius and the Martyr Concordia

In front of Hippolytus, his family was massacred, and then he was brutally murdered for turning to Christ. 

Saint Hippolytus was buried at the place of execution, and the body of the martyr Concordia was found by the Christians Irenaeus and Avundius and buried next to Saint Hippolytus. For this, Irenaeus and Avundius were drowned. Christians gave burial and their bodies.

Micah is the sixth of the twelve minor prophets. He foresaw calamities for the kingdom of Israel.

Transfer of the relics of the Monk Abbot Theodosius of Kiev-Pechersk 

Theodosius from childhood favored church life. After he left his family and became a monk, he dedicated his life to serving God and improving the monastery founded by St. Anthony. This monastery served as a model for other monasteries and was of great importance for the development of the Church.

Holy Martyr Vasily Bogoyavlensky, Archbishop of Chernigov

He devoted himself to church service, during the years of the change of power he was killed by the Bolsheviks. Hieromartyr Basil was canonized in 2000.

Dormition of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary

The death of the Mother of God is called the Assumption, since the Saint did not die with an ordinary human death. This date is one of the main church events.

Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The day when believers continue to remember the great feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Transfer from Edessa to Constantinople of the Image Not Made by Hands (Ubrus) of the Lord Jesus Christ (Nut Savior)

This event refers to the year 944. The legend says: The Savior wiped his face with a robe and his face appeared on the fabric. The image of Christ was miraculous and imprinted several times on other surfaces. In memory of these events, there is a holiday. 

In the people, it is also called Nut or Bread Spas. In Our Country, nuts usually ripened by this time, and even on this day pastries were traditionally prepared from the flour of the new crop.

Memorial Day of the Martyr Physician Diomede 

It was believed that the doctor Diomede treated not only the body, but also the soul. Many went to him for help. Converted many pagans to the Christian faith. 

Celebration of the Icon of the Theotokos Feodorovskaya

The Evangelist Luke was the author of the icon. The image was delivered to Our Country from Jerusalem. The icon is considered a miracle-working shrine of Our Country and, according to believers, has shown many miracles through their prayers.

Memorial Day of the Hieromartyr Presbyter Myron of Kizicheskoy 

Lived in the III century, suffered under the emperor Decius. He was distinguished by his courageous character, rising to the defense of believers.

Memorial Day of the Reverend Archimandrite Pimen Ugreshsky (Myasnikov) 

Pimen Myasnikov dedicated his entire life to serving the Church. For outstanding services in building the monastery, he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite. He has built five churches. 

Remembrance Day of St. Alipiy, Pechersk icon painter 

He was one of the first great icon painters. I studied icon painting with Greek masters. He put in order dilapidated icons from other churches free of charge.

Memorial Day of the Hieromartyr Presbyter Alexy Velikoselsky 

In 1918 he was arrested by the Bolsheviks and soon shot. The name of Hieromartyr Alexy was included in the Council of New Martyrs and Confessors of Our Country in 2001.

Celebration of the Icon of the Mother of God of Svenska (Pechersk)

The day of celebration was established in gratitude for the liberation of the city of Bryansk from Napoleon’s troops in 1812.

Memorial Day of the Martyrs Florus and Laurus

Both brothers worked as stonecutters. At the behest of the ruler, a pagan temple was built, and then, with the help of a popular uprising, they crushed idols and helped to install a holy cross in the temple. As punishment, they were thrown into an empty well and covered with earth.

Memorial Day of the Holy Martyrs Hermas, Serapion, Polien

They refused to worship idols, for which they were painfully killed.

Memorial Day of Hieromartyrs Emilian, Bishop of Trebia and with him Hieromonk Hilarion, Martyrs Dionysius and Hermipp

After the death of their parents, the brothers Emilian, Dionysius, Yermip and their teacher Hilarion went to Italy, where they preached the Gospel to the pagans. For bearing the word of God, they were seized, tortured, and then killed. 

Memorial Day of the Hieromartyr Presbyter Grigory Bronnikov 

Grigory Bronnikov was born into the family of a deacon and graduated from a religious school. He served in the Church of the Epiphany. He put a lot of effort so that the church would not be closed, but his efforts were in vain. In 1937, he was accused of agitating against the Soviet regime and executed by firing squad. Ranked among the saints in 2001.
