How is pruning of a mock-orange made in the fall

In order for the bushes to look neat and keep their shape, the mock-orange needs annual pruning. Most flowers bloom on young one-year-old shoots. After the end of the flowering period, it is necessary to remove all old-year shoots.

When pruning a mock-orange in the fall, shoots older than 5 years are removed

The goals of the autumn pruning of the mock-orange:

  • Sanitation is carried out both in early spring and in autumn. During its implementation, only damaged and diseased shoots are removed.
  • Formative pruning – done after the flowering of the mock-orange. With its help, a certain contour is given to the shrub.
  • Thinning – in the process of pruning, all weak and diseased stems are removed. It is also recommended to thin the core of the shrub for better air circulation.

After pruning, it is recommended to process the cuts with garden pitch, and mulch the soil around the shrub.

Most gardeners choose to plant seedlings in the fall. This is due to the fact that in the spring the planting work must be completed before the start of vegetative processes, so the time is limited. In the fall, gardeners have more time for planting. The main thing is that the plant has time to take root before the onset of the first frost.

The best time for planting a mock-orange in autumn is the period from the second half of September to mid-October.

The process of planting seedlings consists of the following stages:

  1. Prepare the planting hole about 1-2 weeks before planting to give the soil time to settle.
  2. At the bottom of the pit, prepare a drainage layer at least 15 cm thick.
  3. On top of the drain, pour a layer of soil consisting of 3 parts of humus, 1 part of sand and 2 parts of black soil or leafy soil.
  4. Plant the seedling so that the root collar of the bush is flush with the surface.
  5. Spill the plant abundantly, and after the soil around the shrub has settled, add soil to even out the edges of the hole.

When planting, it is necessary to ensure that the root neck of the mock-orange does not go deeper into the ground deeper than 3 cm. Following these simple rules will allow you to grow a beautiful plant that will become a real decoration of your garden.
