Christmas: in Poland told how many people can sit at the festive table

Over the past year, the coronavirus pandemic has not only changed our lives, but also influenced and continues to influence the traditions that have been cultivated for years.

In Poland this year, the government decides to celebrate Christmas in a sanitary regime. The regulation “On the establishment of certain restrictions, orders and prohibitions in connection with the epidemic”, published on November 26, introduces, among other things, a restriction on people who can spend holidays together, writes finanse.wp.pl.

According to the decree, it will be impossible to organize meetings “that take place in a room or building indicated as the address of residence or stay of the person organizing the event or meeting” and in which more than 5 people must participate.

Christmas math

Christmas in Poland is celebrated on December 25 and the day before, they traditionally gather at the festive table. Therefore, it is already important to understand now how many people this year will be able to take part in this long-awaited event. As it might seem from the decree, only 5 people can celebrate Christmas together, is that so?

Not. The ruling specifies that “people do not include those who organize an event or meeting and people who live or run it together.” Simply put, if the family is the organizer, then it does not matter how many members it consists of. It is important that they all form one household. Example?

  • You have four children, which means that there will be six of you at the table, which means that you are not breaking the ban.
  • You live with your relatives, and there are eight of you together, you still do not break the limit. Moreover, you can also invite 5 more people to the holidays.

Higher math begins when a family of four (or more) children wants to visit their grandparents on Christmas Eve. According to the regulations, grandparents who are organizers are not taken into account when calculating the limit, and children with grandchildren who go with them are taken into account.

The paradox is that the same eight people (grandfather, grandmother, son, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren) in the apartment of the elderly will violate the ban, but if such a dinner is arranged by the son, then no. Since the son’s family will be considered a single household and can invite 5 guests.

According to the regulations, the restriction on meetings of up to 5 people applies to the period until December 27, that is, also on the first and second day of Christmas and on the Sunday that follows them.
