Seven renowned chefs and 400 volunteers are going to offer many families a very special dinner to celebrate Christmas. I invite you to dinner is a Christmas dinner for families who cannot celebrate it, a solidarity initiative organized by several associations that work for the dignity and well-being of people in need.
Knowing initiatives such as I invite you to dinner confirms that citizens are supportive, although at Christmas the number of solidarity actions that are carried out always increases, in the last years of crisis we are seeing how society is involved with the most needy people, contributing what it is in your hands. What will continue to worry us all is that no matter how hard we try to do, we cannot reach everyone. The same thing happens with this Christmas dinner for families who cannot celebrate it.
I invite you to dinner is a solidarity action in which some 400 volunteers have been involved, in principle the majority will be waiters and cooks. These volunteers are joined by seven renowned chefs, David Muñoz (Diverxo Restaurant), Ricard Camarena (Ricard Camarena Restaurant), Juan Pozuelo (Raza Nostra Group), Sergio Fernández (Las Mañanas de la 1 program), Carles Mampel (Bubo Pastry), Quim Casellas (Casamar Restaurant) and Chema de Isidro (Chema de Isidro Cooking School), they will be responsible for creating a special dish to offer a Christmas menu to families without resources.
For these families (with a total of about 500 people) the Christmas celebration will be brought forward to December 22 (it is normal for volunteers to reserve the holiday to spend with their family) and will take place at the Palacio de Negralejo. It will not be a dinner of luxuries and whims with which many more families could be fed, but it will be a complete dinner in which they will discover new combinations of flavor.
This is what David Muñoz has declared to Efeagro, the chef at Diverxo will make stewed lentils with Mallorcan sobrasada, curry and scampi. It is a special dish for Christmas but there is no intention of bringing haute cuisine to the most disadvantaged families, according to the cook it would be something ‘demagogic’. The objective is to offer a special Christmas dinner to those who cannot enjoy it and stir up social conscience.
