Choosing sunscreen according to skin type

Step-by-step instructions for those who have not yet decided on the choice of the most suitable sunscreen. Now everything will become clear to you.

Step 1. Determine your skin type

You probably already know your skin type. If not yet, take our quiz.

Gone? Then we move on. One common misconception is that skin type changes with the seasons and weather. Of course, in winter there is a tendency to lose moisture, but oily skin will not become dry from this. In the summer, when sweating intensifies due to the heat and the face begins to shine more, I want to classify my skin as oily, but this is also a mistake. And it is even more wrong to radically change the means of care. This can only worsen the situation.

Step 2. Determine your phototype

For those who are not yet aware of which phototype you should classify yourself with, we have also prepared a special test.

Knowing your phototype is important in order to choose the optimal sun protection factor. For example, people with dark skin need a small SPF of 15-30, but fair-skinned people cannot do without SPF 30-50.

Full-fledged can be considered only protection from ultraviolet rays of a wide spectrum. On the packages, it is indicated by the abbreviations UVA, PPD, PA.

Step 3. Choose the right sunscreen format

For dry skin

Your choice of sunscreens with the function of moisturizing and nourishing.

  • Classic creams: their oily base is an additional nourishment for the skin.

  • Moisturizing milk.

  • Oil-spray: of course, sunscreen.

Sun milk for face and body with a high degree of protection Ambre Solaire, SPF 30, Garnier – it contains shea butter, very close in composition to the skin’s own fats. Thus, the milk protects against damage caused by ultraviolet radiation and nourishes the skin.

Huile Solaire Soyeuse Nourishing Sun Oil, SPF 30, Biotherm, in addition to UV filters, it contains caring ingredients: shea butter, algae and rosemary extracts, vitamin E.

Moisturizing Facial Lotion, SPF 25, CeraVe — a branded powerful moisturizing complex based on hyaluronic acid and ceramides is supplemented with a fairly high sun protection factor. Both are necessary for dry skin in summer.

For normal skin

Owners of this type of skin do not have to meticulously choose the texture. As a rule, any format is suitable for them. The main thing is that the composition of the product contains all the necessary antioxidants and moisturizers.

Ambre Solaire Solar Water Sheer Sun Spray with Aloe Vera, SPF 30, Garnier It is made up of water and a gentle oil, so it should be shaken slightly before use. Due to the light texture, it is instantly absorbed. Enriched with moisturizing aloe.

Sun milk for face and body “Protection and hydration”, SPF 15, L’Oréal Paris contains moisturizing aloe juice and helps fight free radicals with green tea antioxidants.

For combination skin

Among the most comfortable are light textures that are quickly absorbed and are not felt on the skin:

  • fluid;

  • gel;

  • milk with moisturizing ingredients;

  • spray.

Face & Eye Sunscreen, Anthelios Fluid, SPF 50+, La Roche-Posay in addition to sunscreens, it contains silicon dioxide, which has a mattifying effect. The fluid provides a light toning effect, which can be convenient in the city. Does not provoke the formation of comedones.

Ambre Solaire “Expert Protection” Moisturizing Dry Spray for Face, SPF 50, Garnier It is convenient in that it can be sprayed directly on the face and even over makeup. Lightweight, non-comedogenic.

For oily skin

For several years now, special sunscreens have been produced for owners of oily skin:

  • mattifying sunscreen;

  • fluids;

  • dry sprays.

Crème Solaire Dry Touch Mattifying Face Sunscreen, SPF 50, Biotherm plus sun protection removes greasy shine, which is especially important for oily skin.

Ultra Light Daily UV Defense Anti-Pollution, SPF 50 PA+++, Kiehl’s recommended for all skin types. Non-comedogenic, contains antioxidants and mattifying agents.

For an anti-aging effect

Sun protection is an anti-aging function in itself. But modern tools, of course, can offer even more. Look for useful components in their composition that are characteristic of anti-aging cosmetics and anti-wrinkle products:
  • powerful hydrofixators like hyaluronic acid and algae extract;

  • antioxidants;

  • oils, omega fatty acids.

Spray Sublime Sun “Extra protection”, SPF 30 high protection factor, L’Oréal Paris, in addition to a complex of filters that block broad-spectrum rays, it contains antioxidants that prevent skin damage at the cellular level.

CC Cream, SPF 50 PA+++ Anti-Pollution, Kiehl’s combines sun filters with mineral pigments, antioxidants and moisturizing ingredients. The composition includes lychee extract, baicalin, vitamin E. With regular use, it improves skin condition.

For sensitive skin

Choose a sunscreen that contains:

  • thermal water;

  • a minimum of ingredients, including potentially allergenic essential oils;

  • mineral filters.

As sunscreens, you can choose, among others, children’s products with SPF.

Sunscreen for sensitive skin with 100% mineral filters Sheer Mineral UV Defense, SPF 50, SkinCeuticals protects even sensitive skin from broad spectrum ultraviolet radiation, and natural plankton extract (artemia salina) enhances protection and promotes recovery at the cellular level.
