Cholinex for sore throat and mouth inflammation. How to use Cholinex?

Cholinex is a drug used in family medicine and otolaryngology to treat inflammation of the throat and mouth. The preparation affects the digestive tract and respiratory system, has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Cholinex is available as lozenges and can be obtained without a prescription.

Indications for the use of Cholinex

The active substance of Cholinex lozenges is choline salicylate. The drug is given in inflammation of the mucosa of the mouth and throat, to relieve pain and swelling in the throat, and as an adjunct to antibiotic treatment of infections of the oral mucosa and throat caused by certain microorganisms.

Dosage of Cholinex: deagles and children after 12 years of age – usually suck 1 lozenge 4-6 times a day.

Cholinex and contraindications and warnings

A contraindication to the use of Cholinex is hypersensitivity to salicylates, other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or any component of the preparation, as well as esophageal varices.

Cholinex – warnings:

  1. In the case of inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, gastric ulcer and / or duodenal ulcer, and patients with bronchial asthma, consult a doctor before using the preparation.
  2. Do not use in children up to 12 years of age due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome.
  3. Cholinex contains sucrose and glucose; people with hereditary disorders related to fructose intolerance, malabsorption of glucose-galactose or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency should not use the preparation; caution is advised in patients with diabetes mellitus.
  4. Do not use during pregnancy due to lack of safety data.
  5. Cholinex can be used during breastfeeding only after consulting a doctor and only if absolutely necessary.

Cholinex – interactions:

  1. Salicylates reduce the effect of other NSAIDs; intensify the effects of sedatives and hypnotics; enhance the action of antidiabetic and anticoagulant drugs.
  2. Steroid and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as anticoagulants, fibrinolytics, and platelet aggregation inhibitors may increase the risk of bleeding.
  3. These interactions are unlikely to occur after ingestion of the lozenge formulation.

Cholinex – side effects:

The following may occur: allergic reactions (reddening of the skin, rash, cough, swelling of the face, tongue, lips, difficulty swallowing or breathing), damage to the gastrointestinal mucosa (abdominal pain, vomiting, bleeding). Reye’s syndrome may occur very rarely in children under 12 years of age after oral administration of salicylates.
